From the other bench: Coyotes may retaliate to take series advantage'
After blowing two late leads, one resulting in an overtime loss, the Coyotes are hoping to avoid taking another step back tonight. Standing in their way will be a sold-out and fully charged United Center crowd. Speaking with TSN, Coyotes captain Shane Doan called tonight’s game a “must win”.
“We never want to give up a game-winner the way we did,” said Doan. “We have to go in there and win one of those.”
As far as the Blackhawks go, Patrick Sharp is approaching tonight’s contest with a similar mentality.
“We learn in the playoffs that always the next game is always the biggest,” Sharp said before alluding to Saturday night’s victory. “We’ll enjoy this and be ready for the next one."
The Hawks might be a man short tonight as Andrew Shaw awaits word from league officials whether or not he will be penalized for his hit on ‘Yotes goalie Mike Smith.
Doan hinted that retaliation should be expected.
“As you go through a series, you start to get a little personal, battles going on where you want to make sure you win those,” Doan told the Chicago Sun-Times. “It’s time to get personal.”
If the Coyotes do chose to retaliate, Corey Crawford won’t be fazed.
“If they want to come try it, try it,” said Crawford. “I’ll be ready.”
