The Cubs have one of the best front offices in baseball, led by Epstein, GM Jed Hoyer, senior VP of player development and amateur scouting Jason McLeod and one of the strongest scouting and player development departments in baseball, possessing elite evaluators and teachers.*

Joe Maddon reportedly is all set to sign on as the manager of the Cubs.

They have been missing an elite manager since Lou Piniella's decision to retire back in August 2010, but that's about to change soon; the Cubs are close to officially announcing Joe Maddon's long-term contract to manage the team.

Not bad for the last 3 years..
ONE OF THE : top Front Office, top minor league, and top manager. now they need to work on major league team

Don't forget that this has taken place in the 3rd year of the 4 year rebuild that they told everyone they were going to do. It sure seems like all the worthless Cubs bashing was just wasting everyone's time.

The Cubs will have one of the best front offices, one of the best managers, one of the best offensive lineups, one of the best minor league systems, one of the best relief pitching (see last years era), and hopefully soon to have one of the best starting pitching lineups. Throw in some much needed renovation to a crappy Wrigley field, and yes ..... The Cubs suck! :dunno:
LOL and good riddance to the Cubs bashers. :sweep:

I'm not trying to be negative, but the last three years have been incredibly hard to watch. Cant imagine it was too much fun paying to go see a 90 loss team.

But with all the great things right now, the farm, new manager (unless there is a hitch somewhere), and likely brand spanking new team, its all gotta be successful.

I am curious. Say we do get a Lester and Headley or two impact free agent, what would the win projections be? If the cubs exceed expectations, we know we'll all be happy. But if they underachieve?

I'm happy there's big potential for the future of this team. But I'm not counting chickens. KC took a while to get it together and put together the run we just saw with their once-prolific farm a few years back.

Not even sure why bashing was brought up. It was obvious the cubs were going to rebuild the team in 2011 on.......why bash a 60 win team built to intentionally tank?

It has been tough to watch the last three years but all through that it's been clear that there was a plan. To see that plan starting to show tangible results and to see the front office validate their own confidence by hiring a to tier manager is very gratifying. I think the back channel pursuit of Girardi last year, the bid for Tanaka over the winter, the waiver wire grab and pursuit of a trade for Cole Hamels and now the hiring of Maddon have all been signals that this team is changing gears from breaking down to building again. I guess the fact that they have been so transparent with their plan (within reason) and that we have seen things start to fall like they said they would inspires hope. No we see what happens next.
