I don't think he ever intended it to go on this long, but the publisher and in the case of Martin the network and publisher is throwing money at you. It's a bit obscene. Not exactly respectful of your own work. I'm sure it would be hard to turn down, but he could have a bit more self respect.

I'd love to see the Silmarillion done in movies and also the Donaldson trilogy. Amber would also be good - not sure if Zelazny is even alive. There's a lot of nerdy material out there.

I agree with you, but the books and show aren't even close. I don't read that much more than I watch it. I think it's filler in both cases.
