Thibodeau defends Bogans - Chicago Bulls Blog - ESPN Chicago CHICAGO -- There hasn't been much for Bulls fans to complain about over the last two weeks, but there is one pressing question that just won't go away:

Keith Bogans will remain in the Bulls' starting lineup for the foreseeable future.
Why does Tom Thibodeau continue to stick with Keith Bogans in the starting lineup?
When asked about Bogans' recent struggles before Saturday night's game, he got defensive very quickly.

"I'm concerned about our team," Thibodeau said. "It's collective. It's not on Keith. It's on the team. Our readiness to play. When we're ready to play, we play well. And sometimes we're lethargic, but to put it all on Keith is unfair. It's not right."

When it was suggested to Thibodeau that the Los Angeles Lakers didn't expend a lot of energy to guard Bogans at the 3-point line and it looked, at times, as if the team was playing four on five, he got even more defensive.

"I don't think that's the case at all," Thibodeau said. "I think [the Lakers'] commitment to Derrick [Rose] and their commitment to Carlos [Boozer] dictated where it was going. When you evaluate the offense, you ask yourself, Is it inside out? Are there two on the ball? Are we making the right play? When they raise up to shoot is it a good shot? We don't judge ... OK, he had a couple go in and out. To me, those were good shots. I had no problem with that."

Bottom line: Bogans is staying in the starting lineup for the foreseeable future ... whether you like it or not.

I'm not even angry that he's in the starting lineup. I'm just befuddled. Why is he there?

Someone needs to break Bogans' femur in two.

That way he will be forced to start Brewer or Korver. At least one of those two can make a shot and the other plays solid defense.

I actually don't mind it.

Bogans is a stronger defender to match up against the wing scorers of the league than Korver, and can stretch the floor better than Brewer. If you start Korver or Brewer vs. other teams 1st units then you will be exposing yourself in one of those areas :giggity:

If the Bulls are winning, don't change it. Maybe Bogans is not making his shots (he did make 2 3's yesterday). He has the veteran presence and he's a good defender. He knows how to play the game. He also really does not play much, he starts the game for 5-7min and starts after halftime for the same time and that's really it.

I would completely agree with you, if any of that were true. His defense is as good as flip murrays, and his shooting is almost as good as pargo.

have you noticed how the bulls go down big in the first and third quarters consistently? it's because bogans ruins the flow on offense. he makes you take bad shots. Some one the floor passes the ball to a wide open bogans. he passes up the shot by passing the ball to deng, rose, noah and boozer. Then one of the other starters has to take a contested shot out of the flow of the offense. Also players dont guard bogans. REally they dont guard him. he's just hanging out there. the bulls playing on 4/5. it sucks. I'm all for letting korver start.

I'm fine for now, but if he keeps it up, then a change is in need.

Yea I can live with Bogans now. I'd give him a few more games before inserting Brewer into the starting lineup.

That's not really true. I'm not saying that he's as good of a defender as Bogans or Deng, but he does have a much longer shooting range than Brewer with better defense than Korver (and definitely Flip Murray).

he's shooting a percentage at which, you'd be more than happy to leave him open.

Bogans is a good enough defender where you're not getting killed. You dont start a guy that's playing good enough defense where you dont get killed, for his defense.

you play brewer, because his defense is good enough to overcome his offense.

by the way, bogans let rudy gibson walk into a 3pt shot. what the crap was that.

obviously, i was being facetious. gar trading bogans, would be the only scenario where we limit his minutes. for some reason, thibs loves this guy.

I can't say that i have a huge problem with him starting. as long as he plays 2:00 minutes a night.

I wouldn't want to trade him.. I agree with starting Brewer or Korver at this point but down the stretch in the playoffs its always good to have a guy around who has experience and can come out and play good defense, spot up three as well.

I understand what Thibs is saying.......but in the near future the trade deadline is coming up and if he wants his 1st season as a head coach to continue in the positive direction it's going if may need to include 1 of his 2 personal friends/favorites (Bogans/Scal) in a trade to match salaries for a real starting SG. Which of course due to his salary Bogans can be used.

Listen, I generally don't mind that Bogans is on this team. I just don't see the positive production that Thibs sees in starting him. Then again, that's why I'm not an NBA coach... :smug2:

NOBODY WANTS BOGANS!

I actually would keep Bogans around just for Defense but he should be starting nor should he be playing as much as he does

still think the Bulls should have kept Kyle Weaver or Bogans

i'd like to keep bogans around simply for the reason, that i'd rather have a player like him as our 11th man, than have a player like lindsey hunter.
