According to Yahoo News George Steinbrenner died at the age of 80. I know this is terrible, but I just know who he is because of Seinfeld.

He stayed out of the spotlight the last few years.

His son more than made up for it.

Time to go to that dugout in baseball heaven and argue with Billy Martin.

He sure did a lot with that club. I never had any positive or negative feelings toward the man. R.I.P.

I've heard from some that his portrayal wasn't too far off either...

Some people get on Big Stein but he got the Yankees a ton of titles. I wish the Cubs would get a owner like him someday.

He sure did the Yanks good from the time he took ownership. A huge piece of baseball died today. More so than many make think.

Man did that guy have gigantic balls to not only challenge his staff and other owners, but also players...and yet had no problems getting talent to come.

I heard that the Angels fans were booing the the Yankees players last night at the All-Star Game?

I hate the Yankees as much as the next guy, but even for me that seems like poor taste.

Also, (and I don't follow baseball all that closely) aren't Angels in the same League as the Yankees... meaning they would be playing on the same team? Am I missing something? (more than normal, anyway)

The Yankees beat the Angels in the 2009 post-season.

They were booing Dodgers, too.

To MLB and sports fan who weren't around (born yet) in the 70s and early 80s, Steinbrenner's Yankees were a great show. Continuous parade of managers with Billy Martin coming and going; Reggie Jackson; Thurman Munson; Lou; Nettles; Mickey Rivers; former Sox players Goose and Bucky Dent.

Great for MLB, Yankee lovers, and Yankee haters.

But we also have to remember that Georgie boy is the reason that athletes are now getting astronomical contracts. Thats how he was able to put together those "great line-ups" paying players so they would come to NY.
