Gervon Dexter is leaner this offseason. He could be more explosive, but what about his power?

For what Dexter needed to do, to lift his game to the next level, trimming down a little could only help him do those things better. Specifically getting off on the snap faster, and playing with a lower pad level. Maintaining a strong core with aggressive shoulders and lower pads, is easier if you’re carrying less weight in your mid section. Also exploding off the snap is that much easier and will be faster, if you’re carrying a few less pounds.

Gervon Dexter and Pickens are our defenses wild cards. If one or both come in and play well, this DLine isn’t going to be the weakness we thought it was. We might still be a good DE away from being truly elite, but with the two young DTs growing a lot in year 2, our defense will be very good all things considered. If Gervon Dexter is able to draw double teams along with Sweat, our LBs will be running free on most plays. The weight loss is nice, but let’s hope he didn’t get too light and lose power.

That seems like a lot of work. I think he should just play better than his opponent.

I don't think Dexter has ever been described as "lacked athleticism". He's likely gained some quicks but was never slow or unathletic.

Take this for all its worth:

If he becomes faster this year, with losing minimal power i dont know if the lolions and jared goofy will know what hit them!

If he can line up with his ass lower, squat a bit more, he'll be a monster.

quick burst off the line can translate to initial power....

you may have a big powerful dude with no burst and it won't do much...

You need to balance burst with strength.

“Overall, he lacks athleticism and is pretty reliant on winning with power.”

“He’s a limited pass rusher with below average quickness and rush skill but can get there eventually if the play extends.”

Pretty funny analysis, because he only put up 22 reps at the combine on the bench.

He won with power because all he did was sit back and wait in college. Whoever his coaches were fucked him over bad. I would have transferred out if I was him.

This was his HS 247sports scouting report:

Very tall with strong build. Physically mature with near ideal traits across the board. Flashy pass rusher from the interior or the edge despite great size. Twitchy off the ball with strong combination of power and quickness. First-step penetration skill with some risk-taking displayed ahead of senior season. Great length helps disengage process. Good lateral movement with some ability to set up blockers in tight windows, especially inside. Surprising wiggle relative to frame. Verifiable athleticism on the testing front. Above-average basketball background with anticipated footwork. Still raw relative to football experience but willing to mix it up physically. Could stand to play with more functional and concentrated aggression. Had a huge senior season and was leading the state of Florida in sacks at one point. Spike in production and improvements over the course of his senior season and all-star campaign points to a very high ceiling. Still room to add good mass at the next level. Scheme versatile with potential to impact Power Five program immediately upon arrival. Early NFL Draft entrant ceiling thereafter.

Florida decided to use his talents and turn him into a lane clogger, lol.

Wow great analysis!

Mfers acting like this isn’t the most commonly mentioned criticism of Dex’s game. We all know. Thanks!

Dexter's problems last year had more to do with technique than not being athletic enough. Same problem a lot of tall DTs have as rookies getting lower off the ball.

Why don’t you tell me, since you’ve become so good at making this shit up

Nice deflect away from the fact that you are nothing but one big sack of obvious takes.

Yeah,OP is talking out his ass. Dexter was in the 95 percentile athletically as a DT since 1987 entering the draft.

Gervon Dexter is a DT prospect in the 2023 draft class. He scored a 9.53 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 77 out of 1623 DT from 1987 to 2023.

Silger scored a 1.21 on RBS( Relative Blogging Skills) ranking 4,326 out of 4328 since 2018, strangely that is just ahead in ranking, but by way better scores, than two CCS member @DanielCCSBears and @BearsFan51, who scored -1.22 and -1.23, relatively.
