The building of the original team and the complete decimation of the 1997-98 team pretty much cancel each other out for me.

I give him the most credit for trading for (the 5th overall pick for the Seattle Sonics) Scottie Pippen and also drafting Horace Grant before the 1987-88 season.

The Charles Oakley for Bill Cartwright trade also worked out, too. I can't remember off-hand if Krause was responsible when that trade was made or not. But it was a highly-criticized move that made Jordan furious actually. And it paid off, so I give the Bulls credit for that, too.

I agree that Krause was his own worst enemy post-1998 and was chiefly responsible for the demise of the organization. My point is that we also need to give him credit for building that dynasty. It's not easy building a team around a shooting guard, unlike a center or point guard. He assembled all the right players to put around #23 for the first three-peat and then did it again as 23/33 were the only two players on the roster for second three-peat. People also forget, or are to young to remember, that he fired a very popular coach in Doug Collins after going to the conference finals and hired Phil Jackson - a complete unknown that turned out to be a pretty decent coach:)

Dont forget the trade with Will Purdue for Dennis Rodman. I think that worked out pretty well too lol.

As much as I despise Krause, I do give him credit for building that first 3peat title team. But keep in mind, Krause wanted Joe Wolf, not Horace Grant, in the 87 draft, & it took Reinsdorf to over turn him. He made some good trades in his time here, but after 90 draft, which netted us Kukoc, Krause was awful in the draft, selecting nothing but PF's for 7 straight years! (Mark Randall, Byron Houston, Corie Blount, Dickey Simpkins, Jason Caffey, Travis Knight) Granted the picks were at the bottom of the 1st but 7 PF's? Seriously?

Though his biggest mistake in my eyes was drafting doughboy Stacey King with 6th pick in the '89 draft when I was pining for homegrown sensation Tim Hardaway who was still on the board. Or at the very least, Nick Anderson.

Krause didn't draft guards because of the way Jordan treated them in practice. And for a long time he was against drafting home town talent...and you named two players that fit that bill. But hindsight is 20/20...he deserves the respect for what he helped build and he deserves the blame for what he helped destroy.

So you're telling me he was purposefully drafting shitty PF's cuz he was too afraid MJ would tear his wing players a new one? Please. That goes against everything we know about Krause. The guy is as stubborn & bullheaded as they come, he wasn't going to let anyone tell him how to do his job unless it came from Reinsdorf himself. I don't believe that statement for a second. The guy just didn't draft very well, outside of the draft day trade for Pip, & drafting Kukoc in the 2nd.

And being against drafting hometown talent is idiotic & no way to run a franchise. Where would we be right now if Pax had that moronic line of thinking?

I don't know why he drafted shitty point guards. But the reason why he didn't draft shooting guards was in the book "Jordan Rules". I didn't make it up out of nowhere.

The idea that Krause said "lets draft PFs that can't play"....is pretty stupid...and not at all what I suggested...
