I just heard on the radio that Google Fiber was trending on twitter so I looked it up. This is the first I've seen of it but it is absolutely crazy. Have you guys seen it? It's only available in like Kansas right now but the plans are $120 a month for TV and internet with 1GB upload and download speeds. That's 1GB per second. Plus like 200 HD TV channels with DVR for up to 8 shows at once. I all of a sudden want to move to Kansas.

It will be years before they show up in the biggest markets. Why? Regulations. But yes, Google Fiber on paper looks like loads of awesome.

Yeah. That was pretty awesome too. I think they should test the market at my house next.

Yeah, I suddenly feel very slighted myself.

Ditto. I'm cancelling the phone and TV this month... and both of those are over $120.

Kansas is the ideal place to install the hub of a new ultraweb. Near Lebenon.

Get Ooma or Obi for a landline. For Ooma you just pay the taxes and Obi is free (for now).

For TV get a Mohu antenna. They have some real strong anntennas that are not eye-sores.

All I pay for is internet, Netflix, and Amazon prime account.

I checked into Ooma a while ago. $140 for their adapter box plus another $30-40 to port your existing number. For that much, I might as well just go to something like Vonage's $10, 300 minute per month plan. Obi sounds good, but I don't like the fact that it doesn't have 911 identification.

TV is a little more tricky. Antennaweb.org has me in the red/blue zone so I'm probably going to need a rooftop directional antenna.
I'll start with an borrowed omni first though... ;)

I think Mohu came out with a new rooftop/attic antenna. My father in law has a yagi antenna and it's excellent. Just point it at the Willis Tower.

Yeah, that part of Ooma sucks, but it's super user friendly. I haven't had to restart Ooma or my Asus Dark Knight router since the intial set up. I think Obi (google voice) has a work around for 911.

I read that Kansas is just the test site and once they work out the details of their operation, they are going to move into the major markets fast.

On a side, how smart is it for a company like google to offer free low end internet...!? Fuckin genius.
