Google Inc. has been vacuuming up fragments of people's online activities broadcast over public Wi-Fi networks for the past four years, a breach of Web etiquette likely to raise more privacy worries about the Internet search leader.

Even Google was troubled by its behavior, and issued a public apology Friday. The company said it only recently discovered the problem in response to an inquiry from German regulators.

Troubled? So some low level programmer decided to do this without the approval of management and then store it without management approval.

Google Ireland have just come out and said they had to destroy loads of data here too while getting data for their map/street viewer software. The amount of idiots with unprotected networks is crazy.

people who have their networks unprotected deserve it. if you see someone who drags their wallet after them and it gets stolen, you would probably say they asked for it. it's the same thing with unprotected wi-fi.
