BG eyes a title: Looking ahead to becoming an unrestricted free agent on July 1, Ben Gordon listed a chance to win a championship as his top priority. Since the only teams certain to have cap room right now are Detroit, Oklahoma City and Memphis, his best chance might be to stay with the Bulls.

"The guys I was out there on the floor with (in the playoffs) gave it everything they had," Gordon said. "I think this team we have right now, with a few adjustments, we can definitely head in that direction. I guess it's just going to have to be a decision myself and the Bulls are going to have to come to if I'm going to be back here or not."

Gordon to Cleveland, Miami, or Orlando if he can't work something out with the Bulls?

Remember how Wade kind of was telepathing to Gordon to take the qualifying offer last summer?

I wouldn't discount the Celtics taking a shot at Gordon too. I remember Ainge offered Paul Pierce for Gordon on draft day. They'd probably make Gordon a sixth man for the present, with the agreement that he would start over Ray Allen when the time comes. But that would make me absolutely sick to see him in a Celtics' uniform.

I believe he's come to realize that if no-one offers him anything significant over the MLE, he may as well take the slight pay cut and go somewhere meaningful. We better not let it come to that.

If he really is putting winning over money, I wouldn't rule out the Lakers either. Given what they run and how much Kobe has the ball, he could play "point guard" for them.

That said, I don't think he's really going to just go somewhere for the MLE, I think he means he wont go to a complete scrub team for a couple of million extra.

If he's going to take the MLE, California has some really high taxes.

Miami (with Wade and B-Easy) and Orlando (with Dwight Howard) or even Houston (with Yao/Ron Ron) and San Antonio (with Parker, Ginobili, Duncan) all are no income tax states, so he could keep a bit more of his money through playing for one of those teams.

Gordon isn't the first and won't be the last person to talk the talk of preferring rings over money. When it's all said and done, he'll sign with the team that offers him the most doe regardless of whether they have a chance of winning a championship or not.

If he goes to that forsaken Cleveland to play with LeCrab I will be seriously offended.

Miami seems like a really likely destination if it's MLE.

They clearly have interest as they flirted with a S&T last summer but got scared off by his pricetag. They have no state income tax making the MLE worth somewhat more as well.

With Gordon they have a chance of being a legit contender if Beasley develops into something.

Yahoo Sports reported that the Bull turned down a sign and trade, and that the Heat were ready to get the thing done.

I kind of agree with you. I think that he wants to make as much money as he can. And why not, at his age he should be trying to get as much as he can.

But then I kind of disagree with you too. If we offer him 8 (annually) and OKC offer him 9.5 I find it hard to believe that he'll bit on that.

Looks like you've got a fan Doug. I remember you stating this exactly line a few times in the podcasts this past year

I disagree.

Dont get me wrong I think he is willing to take the most money if that team has a good future ahead & looks like they could be a winner, but I dont think you'd see him sign with a team that looks to be in a rutt with no real chance of being a winner in the next few years

I'm willing to believe that if Memphis for example offered him 10 mill a year (not that they are suitors) & we offered him 8 a year, he'd take the 8 per year

That statement is totally logical.

From a negotiions stand point though, its a reasonable tactic for Gordon's camp to use.

Most simple valuation is done with use of "comps." For Gordon, he can look at what the Bulls spend on their youngish players that they want to invest in long term and what the top scoring shooting guards in the league make.

That's totally reasonable for Gordon to expect.

Ben dont lie to us. We know your money hungry type of player (not just you). If Memphis offered you 55-60 million you wouldnt mind losing 50+ games a year. You turned down two great deals to stay in Chicago and stay here for years and help compete for a title.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Golden State Warriors
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
There is a possibility that Ben can win a championship here if we get a legit PF. So if we can acquire such a person first (assuming we can do that because idk the order of events in the offseason) then I think Ben will be more likely to resign.
