My favorite teams
I had just fired GTA2 up again. The original top-down view, not the 3D perspective version. I used to love GTA and I was a beta tester for the first GTA, and played it months before it came out, so the top-down styles represents some personal significance. Nobody knew it was going to take off like it did. 1st and 2nd both winning tons of awards. The only people who didn't fully experience the games, were those who didn't PC game. The console versions in this format suck in comparison.
After not playing it for some time, I snooped around the modder communities, and someone made all of the GTA1 maps, including the two London expansion maps, with a pretty good conversion for GTA 2. Seriously awesome stuff, and arguably better than playing GTA1. Also, someone made a whole series of patches to GTA2 since then, with the newest patch being only a month old.
I kind of see it like everyone getting used to Mario64 and all of the 3D Mario games that succeeded it. Then at some point, you just have to stop, and go back to the 2D-like styles, and fully appreciate the brilliance.
The first 2 GTA's are available as freeware on rockstars webpage.
Does anyone else like the classic? I love these kind of games, when done well. Mexican Motor Mafia is another one to check out (freeware), if you're into the genre.
