Gravy or Sauce

So a guy just came into one of my pizzerias, ordered a meatball sub with extra GRAVY! Had it not been for you guys here I would have had to tell the man that we don't put gravy on the meatballs we put SAUCE! Thanks for the help guys and girls...

If you grew up Italian it's definitely gravy.

Yeah I'm sure it's regional. My family is from Southern Italy, I grew up calling it gravy and was corrected if I called it sauce.

Isn't that more of a colloquialism though?

I've always considered Italian meatballs sauce to be sauce. Swedish meatballs has gravy.

I dunno.
