Will there be nine max contract players around this summer? Good question. As we mentioned, any and all of them could sign extensions, or decide not to exercise options to end their contracts. Will there be enough max players to go around? Judge for yourself. Here are some of the big-time names (plucked from ESPN's master list of potential free-agents):

LeBron James
Dwyane Wade
Chris Bosh
Kobe Bryant
Yao Ming
Dirk Nowitzki
Joe Johnson
Carlos Boozer
Amare Stoudemire
Marcus Camby
Manu Ginobili
Ray Allen
Paul Pierce
Rudy *** (restricted)
Luis Scola (restricted)
Brendan Haywood
Kenyon Martin
Tyson Chandler
Josh Howard (team option)
Joel Przybilla

I wonder who we'll end up with?

Think its a player option. He's not going anywhere.

It's a player option for 24 million or so. He'll either sign an extension with the lakers, or just not use the option.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Golden State Warriors
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Kobe's staying put. No if's ands or buts unless the Lakers lose every game for the rest of the year...and even then he'll probably stay.

You can take Kobe, Ming, Dirk, Howard, Pierce, Martin, & Przybilla off that list. None of them are declining their player options & in Howard's case, the Wiz will likely pick up his option.

Agreed, there are a lot of player options on that list that will either stay or get an extension. Though I don't think the wiz will be paying howard 11+mill.

It will be interesting to see what teams do about extensions. Normally they're pretty much formalities for all-star guys. Will teams hold out for the new CBA?
