Enjoyable listen. Part 1 is especially illuminating. Foley mentions that "it's different today" with regard to being able to tell a joke and have fun on-air. Sounds like he's at least somewhat retiring because of all the bull shit "scandals" in recent years. I can't say I blame him, but it's sad how faux outrage has at least some hand in the departure of a legend.

Foley has fallen off.

The shit he said last year, I fucking forgot what it was even , where he had to publicly apologize was stupid. In this day and age a damn expression can’t even be muttered. Context is irrelevant.

Unless it’s Thom Brennaman. **** him.

He said "I would have killed myself," after complimenting someone about all the hard work they did -- might have been Edzo having to travel/do two games in two nights. Yes, it was that innocuous.

Foley lost a step but I still contend he's one of the best in the league, even today. People are going to find out real quick next year with the shit they'll hear.

Foley is not one of the best in the league. Even today. He's better than probably all the shit bag tryouts but he's fallen into the announcer/writer/media conundrum of making it about them or a brand. Once folks start doing the commercials and becoming a personality it becomes about them and not the job. At one time he was the absolute best but the time will never be again and he's not going to change what he is right now.

I think a podcast for him is the exact logical next step for him and could be great with the right young partner. Wish him the best.

Do you listen to other NHL announcers around the league and if so, who's better? Not snarky, honestly asking. I just watched the Dallas/Montreal game last night and their play-by-play guy wouldn't even attempt to name a opposing player's name (Montreal) most times. One of their announcers literally didn't know the signal for goal after the Stars' GWG was reviewed -- the ref's mic was out, but he still gave the signal for goal, and the Star guy yells, "No!" like a complete idiot before his partner saves him.

You can say what you want about Foley, but the guy's cadence is bar none and his knowledge of the game in general still surpasses many. If his biggest sin in recent years has been getting players' names wrong, that happens with announcers all over the league; and there are way worse sins being committed by other current announcers.
