Greg Maddux to the D'Backs???????

New Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers said Wednesday that he would like to hire Greg Maddux as the club's new pitching coach.
Greg's brother, Mike Maddux, has served as a pitching coach for the Rangers and Brewers and the two are widely regarded as highly intelligent pitching minds. Mel Stottlemyre Jr. holds the D'Backs' gig at the moment, but a big shakeup on a variety of fronts is expected this offseason in Arizona.

Thoughts? I would love for Sandberg to become the manage, Dawson to be the bench coach and Maddux pitching coach. Move Quade back to the 3B coach and let Trammell and Larry go. I put Dawson in their because he said he will cosider coming to the bench if Sandberg is name manager. 3 ex and HOF on the bench (soon to be at least). That would be awesome!

I'd bet the Cubs do everything they can to keep him around. He's friends with Hendry, and has said a number of times he doesn't want to be a full time coach.

His current role with the Cubs allows him to play plenty of golf, hang out with his family a lot, and not have to be tied down to baseball 24/7.

Yeah, I really don't want Rothschild to leave. He's proved himself to be a really good pitching coach, and has turned a number of bad pitchers into pretty good pitchers.

I can't see Maddux as a coach. I see him as a front office guy like Nolan Ryan.

Na, I'm not kidding. I just think it will be cool to have all former Cubs on the bench. Will it make the team better, no. Larry may be good but I'm not a big fan. Sandberg to manager, Dawson to bench coach. I'm calling it, lol.

Manager: Sandberg
Bench Coach: Dawson
3B coach: Quade
1B coach: Dejesus
Pitching coach: Larry
Bullpen coach: Lester

Waldo, don't be dumb. Being a "great Cub" doesn't qualify a person to be a good coach/manager.

Isiah Thomas, great basketball player, horrible coach.

Ted Williams, one of the greatest hitters in the history of the world, horrible manager.

Michael Jordan, greatest basketball player, horrible executive.

I know it makes you warm and fuzzy inside to think of all these former Cubs leading the team to the promised land, but that isn't how it works.
