Three family members at a wedding in Turkey have been accidentally shot dead by the groom firing an AK-47 rifle in celebration.

The groom, Tevfik Altin, lost control of his rifle, spraying the guests with bullets and killing his father and two aunts and injuring six others, according to CNN Turk.

It reported that Altin had been arrested after the incident in the village of Akcagoze in southeastern Turkey. Guns are often fired into the air in celebration in some parts of Turkey.

One family member, who did not give his name, told CNN: "It happened very quickly. We all tried to take cover and there was blood all over. We are all very sad right now."

The injured guests included three children aged 10, 12 and 16, according to CNN Turk.

The Sehitkamil State hospital where some of the injured were brought confirmed it has one patient still in the hospital.

I was going to ask why someone would take a rife to a wedding in the first place, but then I remembered watching some of those redneck wedding shows and they actually bought each other guns as gift. I specifically remember a guy giving his wife a pink rifle of some sort. All I could think of at the time was if my husband ever bought me a gun for a wedding present, it better be loaded, cause I'd probably use it on him.

Can we please refrain from turning this into another "guns are bad" thread?

I never said that. I said a gun would make a crappy wedding present.

Unless you live in Kentucky, then it's expected.

Hard to imagine where that level of hostility would come from at a reception that Ymono's band wasn't playing at.

Hell, it's a required part of the wedding party in the proud fathers hands being jabbed into his cousin's er....the groom's back.

Hostility? I'm out on this topic. Apparently someone reads "shot" and "dead" and automatically assumes that someone went postal. IT WAS A FUCKING CELEBRATORY ACCIDENT from a moron.

Chill, Hun, nobody's trying to take you guns away. I don't own one, don't want to own one, have never even seen one, but I don't feel that it is my place to tell other people what to do. It is none of my business if you have an arsenal. It is just a personal life choice for me.

They don't call me Wolverine for nothing. That's what my nails are for.

Well, technically, I don't have them now cause I cut them off cause I'm learning to play guitar, but i could grow them back in no time.

Says the guy who's never actually attended a show...

The Rev gets no respect, no respect at all I tellsya! :D

Besides, it depends on whether it's my father's band or Jako and I's.... way different levels of hostility. That's the reason Jako and I can't play kids parties anymore (well that... and Megan's Law - and I don't mean his wife).

Yeah Mill I owe you an apology. I really need to stop hitting the boards when I am already pissed about something. I didn't get the joke and I apologize.

Awwwwwwww what a nice gesture and an admirable trait. I'm impressed even though you didn't say you were sorry for bitching at me.

Thanks. I didn't apologize to you because I didn't ***** at you. I simply asked that we not turn this into a gun bashing thread. I believe I even asked "please."
