I know a lot of you guys play. I haven't for many years but have decided to get back into it, more seriously this time. Have been looking at the Yamaha fg700s and the Seagull s6 original. The seagull sounds better but costs twice as much, though it's still not an expensive guitar. Anybody have experience with either of these?

The S6 is a really solid guitar for the price. Good sound that gets better with age. The neck is thicker than some people like but I was comfortable with it. It's no Martin but it's a nice guitar.

I generally stick with Martins and Ovations when shopping acoustics. Both have "low end" models in the $300-$500 range and are generally higher quality than most acoustics for that price since that is both companies' specialty.

is that a rhetorical question? that means is that a question I assume you know the answer to so it doesn't need answering?

Make sure you try a Breedlove before you purchase, they are awesome. For a grand you can get an acoustic that will quickly be your best friend.

no washburns?

I got my ovation on Ebay a couple years ago. After I place the bid, a Washburn with the on board XLR became available for less money than I had bid. I spent the rest of the Ovation's auction time hoping someone would have out bid me but it didn't happen. I'm not disappointed in the Ovation though. Sounds great and plays well. I just really wish I had that Washburn though.

I need to pick up a solid acoustic as well. I have 3 nice Electrics, and ESP not an (LTD) custom based off the horizons body style a Dean hardtail and an old Jackson dinky but every acoustic I've owned has been handmedown junk.

They make a "slim" version for that reason. I haven't tried it yet though.

A grand is more than I can afford right now. I've seen a lot of reviews say the s6 is better than the low end Martins. I guess I won't know until I go check them out.
