The sad thing is, their superior has likely pressured them into hard-selling over the phone otherwise they would be fearful of losing their job. Now service rep will likely take the fall, while those who instituted these policies and management will keep-on, keeping-on.

Giving comcast local permit favors around the country has led to comcast being a total dick to everyone possible.

I had zero problem canceling Comcast. I went to their store though with my equipment and dropped it in front of them and said I want to cancel my account. 3 minutes later my account was canceled and 2 weeks later I had a check in the mail for reimbursement.

Yep. That's pretty much what I was thinking.

Same here.

Although I do remember trying to cancel AOL years ago. There were many horror stories about that. I finally had to call my credit card company to get AOL to stop charging me.

The customer seems like an idiot dickhead.

That representative isn't much better himself, but I think it goes to show how dumb and demanding consumers are.

Impressed that the customer was able to maintain restraint. I would have gone on an F bomb tirade.

He seems intentionally dumb to me for an alleged technology expert. Explain why you want to cancel and move on. Even if its a bullshit reason, just have one, keep the process moving and quit whining like a petulant child to a customer service representative on the telephone.

The representative was correct in that it'd be easier to take the materials back to the store, effectively cancelling the service then and there.

Like I said, the policies the companies have forth to retain services are terrible, that much we agree on.

FAIL. Any reason the customer gives will be met with resistance from the Comcast rep. That's why the guy refused to give an answer. And the customer is correct in that he doesn't owe Comcast a god damn thing.

I don't know ... I side with the customer and rarely ever do. The guy isn't obligated to tell the Comcast employee shit. I would've handled it nearly the exact same way. The rep was intentionally trying to irritate the customer by asking the same questions after he politely refused to answer them. The rep probably has some bullshit quota and gets docks every time a customer churns. Even so, his persistence was extremely unprofessional and uncalled for.

Seriously? Why does he need to explain to the guy why he wants to cancel the service? Do you have to give a reason to a business everytime you decide you no longer want to use their business? Yes, he could have conceded and told him why, but he shouldn't have to. The rep on the phone was basically in the guys face, yet the guy managed to keep his cool

The problem lies within the structure itself, not necessarily the individual representative.

I'm still not a fan of the customer (seeing he worked for AOL is a bit ironic), but the problem is much larger than one representative of one company.

I've dealt with the same bullshit from the cable company (Mediacom) in town.

The customer should've calmly stated, "Sir, if you are unable to simply cancel my service, I have no choice but to rip your dick off."

Apparently he had explained prior to the recording starting. I guess he had been on the phone with them for 10 minutes before he decided to start recording.
