Once again leaving much to be desired. Penn needed 3 turnovers to beat army today.

Here's my problem with him. One: rarely does he raise the level of play of those around him. I will grant him that he doesn't have much to work with however, he doesn't standout as the best player on the football field. Even against weak competition.

Two: accuracy. His completion percentage is borderline atrocious. He can Dazzle with one throw then leave you scratching your head with the next two.

3: foot speed. In and around the pocket his footwork is like watching somebody stuck in quicksand. Something that is fixable but will take a ton of work.

The two things he does possess, size and arm strength do not make up for his overall game. I'm almost inclined to call Bryce petty a better pro prospect at this point.

Both have the size and arm. Difference is, Petty is the better athlete and more accurate. Bottom line; Hack REALLY needs to step his game up if he has any thoughts of being a top 50 pick.

Hackenberg fanboys excuses:

It's the talent around him
Has had too many offensive schemes to play in
Has all the physical tools

Sounds a lot like Cutler

He's played in two different schemes, one was Bill O'Brien's pro based scheme as a true freshman in which he excelled and he's now in the second year of a spread scheme in which he's been in a horrible set of circumstances in which he's been sacked as much as any QB in the country. Two straight years he's been running for his life, the other year he was able to stand tall in the pocket he looked like the second coming.

There weren't any fan boys on here, there were simply guys who recognized his talent and wanted to see him develop his game further. I'm not an advocate of drafting ANYONE at this point because the season isn't even half way over yet. Hackenberg is a player I was intrigued to watch a lot of this year because he has obvious NFL skills. If he was able to show the ability to progress and develop and maximize his talent Hackenberg would be the next Andrew Luck. If he can't progress and develop then you move on from him.

It's really quite simple, there are players worth watching right now and there aren't ANY players worth drafting. If there are those that are clamoring for us to draft a player i.e. Goff then those posters have their heads up their asses.

Not to derail this WC, but I have been impressed with Grayson Lambert from Georgia.

Yes, the lack of any real progression is what's scary. He should have slaughtered Army's secondary today even if he only threw the ball 20 times. Sloppy games are bound to happen now and then, but they shouldn't happen against inferior competition.

College football discussion within any CFB thread is not a derailment of, and I'm noticing the same things you're noticing. Watching how is game progresses.

I don't watch as much Big Ten football as I should, but Hackenberg seems to me like a guy who overall has the tools, but has accuracy issues and some mental hurdles. Those who have seen a lot of him: Is that right?

At this point I do not believe he has all the tools. Not even close. He has a very good arm. After that it gets shakey when talking about his attributes.

He definitely goes to Houston next year, whether that is in the first or second round.

Watched Lambert enough at UVA to know he is definitely not the answer. Turns the ball over to much.

Hackenberg is Cutler 2.0 without the arm strength,if Goff dosent commit this year we HAVE to go defense.

And this is all assuming we end up with a top 5 pick...I still think we go 7-9 or 8-8

Do you realize how improbable your record prediction's are? The bears are starring 0-4 in the face. For sake of argument let's say that does happen. They would then have to finish out 8-4 or 7-5. To make either of those come true. What part of this football team has you convinced they could play well over .500 football the rest of the way?

He needs a ton of work.

Take him in the 2nd and develop, develop, develop.

I would be concerned if we passed on one of the more blue chip guys for a dude with so many issues.

I don't even like him that early at this point. I will not be shocked at all to see him slip into the mid rounds if he stays the same course and doesn't progress.
