Obviously he's done enough to not get fired right now, those rumours are dead after this run. But he's on a 3 year contract, has he done enough to keep his job next year?

Regardless of whether he should be replaced (I don't think there's anyone here who thinks he's the best coach on the market), it's hard to see him being fired if the team keeps up its strong play for the rest of the year.

I dont think you can convince the free agent class of 2010 that Vinny is the guy for the job. He has done enough to keep his job for the rest of the year and unless I see a 2nd round appearence he needs to get axed.

I think his job is safe unless a clear top notch coach is available. The 2010 argument is rather dumb considering Erik Spolestra, Triano, Mike Brown and Woodson are not top notch coaches. None of them were known commodities before they got their stars.

I don't see how you can fire Vinny, who is an over .500 career coach on his career. What Vinny has done with this team is impressive. They lost their best player from last season, yet he has the team playing just as good, if not better than last year's team. Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and Taj Gibson have all developed nicely under him, and he has had both teams with good offenses (08-09) and good defenses (this year).

I can't see Vinny stopping us from signing anyone in 2010 free agency. If we sign Lebron, and he wants Vinny fired, he will get his way. Same with Wade, probably Dirk, Amare, Bosh, etc. Vinny can always be fired after you sign those players, although I really don't think it would be fair given the success he has had here.

Vinny is one game over .500. He isn't really a over .500 coach. More like a plan old .500 coach. There are tons of them around that mark. Lets not carried away. The guy is an average coach.

just curious, how often does it happen where a head coach is demoted to assistant in favor of a new veteran coach of better stature? would that be an option?

LEts not get carried away

But keep in mind, vinny coached a team with a rookie pg, a crap ton of injuries. Absolutely AWFUL TEAM! with drew no gooden, disgruntled noc, tyrus and noah(the bad version of noah) oh and big shot larry

then he got some suitable replacements, and the team turned around

This year vinny coached a team that almost quit on him. Has absolutely no depth to it what so ever! NONE! somehow he's managed to put something together with 2 pgs, 3 sfs, 3 pfs, and 2 centers.

to put it plainly. vinny put something together with pargo, hunter, JJ, TT, and miller. REally? that's impressive. Given teh injuries etc, that's really impressive!

We still need depth at the guard position. REally if we can sign a von wafer or anyone really, i'm okay with this team for this year. But eh, most of the inconsistencies this have less to do with vinny then with his bench players.

Well we have Devin Brown now for what that's worth. But all things considering, VDN hasn't done too bad of a job considering what he's had to work with. He's not a great coach, but there's really not that many better options out there. Obviously if there is, I'd drop VDN for him in a heartbeat, but considering that he's actually over .500 now and has the team playing very well, I don't see him going anywhere unless we go on another losing streak where the Bulls are unwatchable again. He's not great, but hey, he could have done much worse.

I'm sick of this injuries/bad players rationale for Vinny as a decent coach, or him not getting a fair shake. It's a joke. Injuries happen to everyone. Look at the Rockets, for cryin' out loud! Difference there, is they have a HOF coach, who knows how to get the most out of his players. Vinny is not a good coach. I'd dare say he's even average. The reason we are winning has zero to do with Vinny's coaching, if you can call it that. Derrick Rose is why the team is winning & winning with confidence. His teammates are trusting him more & vice versa. The only good thing Vinny has done as coach is stop using kid gloves with all his players & letting Rose be the creator out there.

The Bulls are a marquee franchise. They are tops in attendance every single year. They play in the 3rd biggest market in the US. This city & this team deserves a good, big name coach. A coach who will put this team back on the map & back into contention. Not a cheap yes man, who cowers at the feet of the mighty Reinsdork, & couldn't draw up a play for a 2nd grade squad.

In fairness, his 4th best guard (OK, 3rd best if you consider Salmons played mostly SF) from last year is now an all-star. That kind of improvement helps the team just a bit. ;)

i'm not advocating keeping him. just eh.. if we cant get an upgrade, stay the course. As long as we dont sign an extension, i'll be content.

I agree with what you are saying and am happily you finally realize Vinny is average. I know you want to fire him and I would too if we could get one of those marquee coaches. But they aren't that easy to get. I wanted Adelman but he just signed an extension and the other marquee guys aren't moving, especially to go to a non contender. I think Vinny will live out his deal and get replaced after next year if we land a marquee free agent. You don't sign a marquee FA till you have your marquee players. We need another star before we are at that level.
