Take this rumor with a grain of salt considering the source. But the Hawks may be one of several teams after LW Alexander Semin. Not sure why they would be after another winger but here it is:

IF this was true (probably isnt because its from EKLUND), then the Hawks are happy with Sharp as #2 center

Top 6:

Kane-Toews-Semin
Hossa-Sharp-Frolik

If those ended up being the top two lines, i'd go so far as to say they should pick up even more old tough guys.

Lots of tallent, but when you have Sharp and Toews being the muscle in the group, you gotta wonder how effective those lines could be.

Ive also seen Adam Jahns and Chris Kuc throw around lines where smith was on the top line with kane and toews

Gee, I wish it were true- as it would be a good idea -but considering the source it had about as much validity as my own line from 4 years ago on my EA NHL game ... which was a line centred by Marc Savard of Ladislav Nagy and Vinny Lecavalier.

Why the Hawks would be interested in this guy, - right handed shot, top 6 winger, 27 yearts old, and 354 points in 392 career (regular season) games, 30 points in 37 career playoff games... youth, a right handed shot of which only Sharp currently has on their top 6, and consistency.

No idea if they could bend the budget to fit this in; plus the source is right up there as reliable as if it were broadcast on the old Bozo's Ciricus show on GN.... (so it is all moot anyways)

unless I missed who it was who they picked up in that much heralded non-trade with Montreal about 10 days ago.

Edit: Ok, well maybe it is even *less* credible than the Bozo show...

Per wikipedia (a source, ironically more reliable than ... -which considering how Stephen Colbert has used Wikipedia... says a lot).

Semin signed another one-year extension with the Washington Capitals in early 2011, worth $6.7 million.

yea, im guessing one of our RFA's would be going to WASH if this actually happened...Campoli maybe?

But like you said, the source is crap, so I doubt it is real

i'd rathr have a center, Semin doesn't come to play every night, where Sharp would be more valuable. Get Hossa a playmaker who he can produce with.

I floated this very idea to a buddy last night, well since it's 2 am the night before last. He's still upset with the way they mistreated him, they clearly favored Ovechkin, and they're in serious need of cap relief. We could eat a few million and help them at the same time. He's going to be a UFA after the season anyway and tbo he resigned once, I don't see it happening again.

I'd think that Sharpy could center the 2 line and we'd have three stout lines, or we could do a mix and match and let Semin try his hand at center. They guy puts the biscuit in the basket and he had a ton of helpers.

I think that since we didn't bother to sign Talbot or Handzus or even a spud like Arnott, and we're clearly not interested in Boyle, we might as well grab a winger and try to fire off three stout lines even if two of them are a little weak at center.

Maybe they're on drugs and will trade Olesz for Semin to save the cap room... I'd kick a nun in the teeth to get a deal like that... :-O

It isn't happening now. They traded Fehr and they're under the cap now. The only way we got this deal was if they were under cap duress and that no longer being the case, we're boned.

I still hope we go after New York's RFA centerman Boyle.
