Hawks Ditching 3rd Jersey

I've been keeping an eye out lately for updates on the new Winnipeg jerseys and came across a Jesse Rogers mailbag article via another website. Apparently the hawks will be wearing only red and white this year, fine in my book as we never seem to play well in the 3rd's.

I have a hard time believing that the Hawks won't play in a 3rd jersey of some fashion. It's about marketing and sales and nothing more (for all teams and the NHL). I highly doubt John Mcshithead and the NHL is telling Rocky it's a good idea to terminate the idea. I suspect to see some new 3rd jersey in the works if they are ditching the current ones.



Hope I am wrong. But if they want to put my face on the 3rd jersey then I give my approval 100%.

They had a winning record with their latest 3rd jersey's. I see them bringing back the old black one next year or the year after.

Kind of surprising IMO, like TCD said, I can't see McD doing this especially with the way he markets this team. Personally I like the Winter Classics as opposed to the black ones with the red cuffs.

After 3 yrs of wearing the alternate...who would they be marketing to. Not really a bad marketing move and not really a good one...it just doesn't matter if they wear them or not. The alternate is still available for sell, so those who are looking for jerseys will run across it anyway!



Or maybe they finally realize that they are not great for tv, hard to recognize the numbers!

It had to have come down to the sales numbers which weren't there for the 3rd jersey. Personally I like it and have my winter classic jersey which I still wear. I hope they don't go back to the previous black jerseys.

Hope they add the black jerseys back. Could be my favorite although the white is pretty cool. Shame the whites aren't still the home jersey. That move sucked.

I still have my black ones, I like them better than the winter classic ones.



I only have one white one, it's an old CCM jersey.

I agree with Al.

I liked the 3rds but found the names and numbers hard to read on TV. The pattern also seemed to have something of a distorting effect. In the regular jerseys I could usually tell who was who by their posture, size, etc. . Seemed harder with the 3rds but tht might just be me.

I think if they were to do something different, I wouldn't mind altering the red jersey a bit into a combination of the WC and the home jersey.

It's different. I'd be happy if they just went back to the HOME Whites and alternated RED/BLACK on the road.

Exactly my feelings, great jersey for the event, but I'd rather see the red and white in other games. We're spoiled as hawks fans to have the red and white jerseys which are both considered to be some of the best in sports. IMO the thirds have never lived up to the other two so I've never been crazy about them.

I liked the regular black ones they had. All of the players looked good in those. I thought the ones with the beige on them were ugly. Seabs looks good in anything, but he looked extra fierce in black.

Red at home, white on the road - that's all we really need. But I'm sure they'll be a new 3rd jersey offered at some point. I still wish they would wear the Green ones one time a year on St. Patrick's day - kinda like the Sox do (although they do it twice a year)

ehhh...give it a year...they'll be back. It might be a shrewd marketing move by McDonut to create a artificial demand for a 3rd jersey by not having one this year and then putting a new one out.

Not disappointed at all. I personally thought the WC sweaters were ugly.

Would be FINE by me. To me the WC jersey's should have been a one time thing, and the Black jerseys were particularly badass.

When they wear the black sweater, along with the black pants, socks and helmet, it hides the puck for a split-second longer. Just like white shirts in the outfield bleachers make it harder for a batter to pick up the white baseball.



I never understood, except for a stylistic choice, why players use white tape instead of black.
