The Chicago Blackhawks lauded Andrew Shaw for the continuing development of his game Tuesday in announcing they have agreed to terms with the 22-year-old forward on a two-year contract extension through the 2015-16 NHL season.

“It’s great to come to this agreement with Andrew and keep another important member of our team here in Chicago Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said in a statement. “Andrew has proven his ability to play a prominent role on our team and we look forward to watching him continue to grow as a player for the Blackhawks.

Shaw has six points (three goals, three assists) in the Hawks' last six games and ranks sixth on the team in scoring with 11 points total (four goals, seven assists).

Shaw was a fifth-round selection in the 2011 NHL entry draft.

Wow... that is quite the raise.... I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it comparitive to other players because I haven't looked at that, just saying that it's a big step up for him and hopefully it will pay off for the Hawks I really like him and what he brings. Just don't know that he'll ever be more than that bottom line player but I think this is the reality of the NHL these days.

9 players next year

but Habby, Brookbank, Mills and Zeus will be gone.

That leaves a backup (rantaa) one defensemen (Olsen or Clandening who are signed)) Bollig, Smith, Pirri and Morin.

No big signings needed.

plus, the cap will be going up a good amount. NHL is getting their money since Phoenix got bought, and they have about 200 winter classics this year.

I was expecting something like what Kruger got on his deal this past offseason. Oh well, it's not that much more.

We might see both Brookbank and Rosie gone. Kostka was playing quite well in slot-6 before he went down.

2 mil for a 3rd line guy who plays PP and PK and who will crack 40 points this year more than likely? Plus he can play all 3 forward positions? It's a great deal!

Before last season, the Hawks carried a cap hit of $3.1 million/per for 3C. Even with Shaw's raise they're still ahead of the game.
