While, it may all be irrelvant at this point, you've got to point out in regard to goals per game in the regular season Boston was the worst in the league, montreal 4th worst and NJD was ranked 19th (still bottom half of the league).

In regard to the hawks, Nashville was 18, Vancouver and San Jose 2 and 4 respectively.

Niemi has put up solid performances against 2 of the top 5 offenses in the league, Leighton has put up solid performances against 2 of the bottom 5 offenses in the league.

I agree.

I pointed this out in my article, the Flyers as a whole have not seen an offensive powerhouse.

It'll be interesting to see if they can adjust.

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks have went from defensive mode, to rough mode, to offensive mode, and obviously came out victorious in each and every series.

We know Philly can score on basically any defensive system, but can they defend an elite offensive powerhouse? Can they accept the fact that the Hawks will play tougher/rougher than any team they have faced to this point?

IMO, this series will look very similar to the Canucks series. Maybe even similar frustration levels with our offense, but considering Leighton is more cool-headed then Luongo, I don't really think he'll be flipping out when the red light shines behind him... unless he truly believes that the Hawks have a similar offense to Montreal.

Last thing, Philly is in for a big surprise game one if they all believe what Leighton said.

Agreed. If Leighton truly believes that, he's already in trouble. He also won't lose his cool like you said. But Carcillo will.........and rather easily. So I fully expect him to take some dumb penalties. I honestly don't think Philly will be prepared for the Hawks offense the way it is playing at this point.

I had a chick give me a Hot Leighton once. It was awkward, but nothing to be scared of.

Usually I put down a sheet and get a gallon of water ready when I get one as well.

As long as the Hawks come out and play their game like they did against the other three teams, I see no reason why they don't win.

Yes, Leighton is hot right now, Pronger is tough, and they have scoring weapons...however, that is only a few weapons compared to the Hawks.

So, what's the difference between a "Hot Leighton" and a "Hot Karl"?

Or.... a Hot Pocket?

Anyways... I can already tell you that this is going to go 7 games, maybe less. History proves to us that Leighton gets 3 SHUTOUTS per round so that's at least 3 Flyers wins. Hell, the Hawks are such chokers they could even be out with an NHL record 4 straight SHUTOUTS in a single series, let alone the Stanley Cup Finals.

Hawks can't beat a goalie like Leighton, plain and simple... he is a SHUTOUT machine.

While in the minors, Leighton spent time in Cleveland and Birmingham. So a Hot Leighton is a combination of a Cleveland Steamer and a Birmingham Booty Call.

I'm positive the Hawks are not "scared of hot Leighton." That's hilarious. Goalie is easily the most overrated position in sports. Did anybody notice that 3 of the 4 goalies in the conference finals were backups making peanuts at the start of the season? (4 of 5 if you include Boucher.)

Nonetheless Tallon is probably trying to figure out what goalie to give a massive contract to who will win the Cup for the Panthers - just like Khabby did for the Hawks. Or maybe he'll try to trade to bring back Luongo, he's only going to make $10 mill next year. That's funny. (And if you do the math, Leighton and Niemi's salaries combined are 1/4 of Huet's, that's even funnier.)

I disagree! It is rare for any team to reach the Finals without great goaltending. The teams that do (for instance in the past - Detroit, Pittsburgh and maybe Edmonton) usually are blessed with great talent across their team, especially up front.

Besides the obvious ones - Roy, Brodeur, Dryden, Parent, Billy Smith etc., remember Brodeur (Richard) taking Vancouver to the finals in 1982, Richer in 1994, Vanbbiesbrouk in 1996, Belfour in 1999, Habby in 2004 ...

Some have a great playoff - Steve Penny for instance and then players find their weakness and are never heard of again.

I think you're point might be more that its so difficult for a goalie to remain great for a long period of time. We've seen many rookie of the year type goalies (Ranford, Mason...) turn into an average goalie in their second year. Signing goalies to big money long term contracts is risky and a crap shoot most of the time.

It is easily worth it to pay a "great" goalie seven million dollars or more per year if they play like that consistently - regular season AND playoffs (remember Jim Carey who self-destructed in the playoffs with Washington).

Fantastic post Ginnie. Leighton was recently cut. In many case you just never know.
