Blackhawks sign St. Lawrence University Forward Matt Carey to a two year contract. Freshman had 37 points(18g,19a) in 38 games this season as a freshman.

I don't know the "why" but I do know that Carey is ineligible for the postseason this season. Similar to Drew LeBlanc last year.

In regards to the why, a player is ineligible to play in the playoffs if they sign AFTER the trade deadline.
