To celebrate a very likely 2nd induction into the Ccs HoF I'm going to count chickens b4 they hatch by launching a new thread series.

The title of this OP says enough imo but if any jazz heads want to listen to something they haven't listened to in a while, and comment on the genius of it, how it makes them feel, what they like about it or hate about it, or just post some jazzy chit -- this thread is for u.

I promise to keep it fresh and diverse, and there will be no filler. Just a jazz/week for ur jazz appreciation.

This week's installment, legendary drummer, revolutionary, avant garde provacateur: Max Roach with this choral masterpiece, Lonsesome Lover. The lovely Abbey Lincoln lead vocalist

Guys this isnt your typical bebop or hard bop style. This is an early jazz fusion effort with blues and call and response gospel stylings effortlessly blending with freeform improvisation. Very accessible but simultaneously wild in my humble imho.

All due respect to Max Roach, I jumped in at the name Abbey Lincoln. Her haunting voice was such a great soundtrack to the civil rights movement of the 60s and she even had a slight renaissance to her career in the 90s.

Mingus is one of many favs of mine. He's a BASS PLAYER but he also taught himself the piano, which is what he plays in this piece.

He is "the Angry Man of Jazz" known for a mean temper and ambitious expectations of himself and the people he collabed with.
