See that star next to the thanks button? If someone likes your post a lot, then can give you positive rep. If they don't like it or they wanna **** with you, they'll give you a negative rep. Your rep is the amount of points you have... and if you have a lot of points, you have more of those bars above your avatar. If you have like negative points, those bars are red.
