He could just say no comment. But ya that would be stupid to say everyone is for sell the value would go down. I think people know they will be selling players and the value will be down anyway.

I doubt many teams will trade with the Cubs, considering that Henry is on the outs.

I think at least two or three of the following players will be moved: Kosuke Fukudome, Aramis Ramirez, Ryan Dempster, Carlos Zambrano, Carlos Pena, Marlon Byrd and the least likely, Alfonso Soriano.

Just my opinion.

With the contracts they have, Zambrano and Soriano will never be moved.

I'm more likely to agree with you about Soriano but Zambrano...ehhh, maybe. I only say maybe because he's a pitcher. A team in contention might be willing to take on some of Zambrano's money. It really all depends on how much of it Ricketts is willing to eat.

True... but the Cubs would have to make it a SWEET deal, considering Carlos' tempermant.

Absolutely. That's the other problem besides his contract is his anger issues. For the most part, he hasn't really been a problem this year with the exception of when he called out Marmol publicly. It'll be tough to move him but I think they could possibly do it given the fact that he's a pitcher and teams tend to put a premium on pitchers, especially at the trade deadline.

Again this is where keeping Hendry through the end of the season really hurts the team. It isn't in Hendry's interest to make moves beyond this year or at most next season. I don't think that this team will be that active. I think Fukudome and Pena will likely be gone, but beyond that I don't think they will do much. The guys that have value they will and should keep. The others don't have anyone really interested in taking off of our hands. Johnson and Baker might find a new home but I think the best we can hope for is a guy a long ways away or a failed top prospect reclamation project.

Hendry isn't dumb, and knows that at most he has til next year to turn this team into a winner. There is no reason for him to firesale this team and let someone else reap the benefits.

I agree and he prolly thinking same thing i am. They have tons of money off books this offseason and there is no reason they cant pull a 2007 team

soriano and aram wont get moved IMO.

I don't think it is likely that either gets moved, but I am actually starting to think that Soriano might be a possibility. More than one report has hinted at the fact that Ricketts might be willing to eat money to move Soriano. Not sure if it is true or how much Ricketts would be willing to pay, but the odds are higher than I thought a month ago for Soriano to be gone.

In my mind the problem with that is, after the 2006 season, the Cubs had to spend 300 million dollars in new contracts just to transform the team from a 66 win ballclub to an 85 win ballclub.

Despite the fact that the Cubs won't be spending that kind of money next offseason, I'd still hate to see Jim Hendry overpay for players again. This team is terrible right now because of what happened in the offseason after 2006.

Most likely to be moved: Pena, Fukudome, Ramirez
Least likely to be moved: Soriano, Dempster, Zambrano

Wouldn't be surprised a bit if all the top 3 are moved to playoff teams.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Minnesota United FC
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Most likely to be moved: Pena, Fukudome, Ramirez
Least likely to be moved: Soriano, Dempster, Zambrano

What team would take the $16M option?

If Ramirez gets traded, the option becomes guaranteed.

I'd honestly be very surprised if ARam gets moved. Aramis has a full NTC with his 10-5 rights, and his contract stipulates that if he gets traded his team option for next year becomes guaranteed. I think Johnson and then Baker are more likely to get moved than Aramis by a lot.
