before i get ahead of myself, i agree with abbot that rose isn't the mvp. lebron james is the mvp. What i don't agree with is abbot's reasons for why rose isn't the mvp.
1. rose is playing like a really good defender. if you watched the games, you'd realize that jack ass.
2. he's 7th while splitting 2 double teams at the 3pt line. He's also the only ball handler and the only player that can initiate the offense. that's a pretty decent accomplishment.
3. we're the 7th best team with a glaring hole at the 2 guard and a shit ton of injuries. if you call the bulls 7th best team, it's an accomplishment. the bulls shouldn't be where they are.
5. can you really say derrick rose isn't one of the best producers on the offensive end? really? really? maybe the stats are getting to your head.
plus the guy just made the argument that kevin martin is a better player than kobe bryant and carmelo anthony. Also he thinks melo is somewhere between the 14th and 100th best players in the league. stop looking at a stat sheet and watch a fcuking game. jackass.
A treasure trove of opinions arguing that Derrick Rose is or is not the leading candidate for MVP. I think it's an accomplishment for Rose to even get into conversations like this, no matter your criteria. He's a pretty bad defender on the NBA's seventh-best team, and he's not even among the very best producers on offense, ranking 14th in PER. Dumb ol' points per game can sometimes get someone a magic pass, but even there he's seventh. I'm not saying any of those metrics are gospel. I'm saying the best player in the league ought to really stand out at something, and being the most exciting player and leading scorer on a good team in a big market is not enough.
