I'm in the market for one...preferably a wireless one w/ multiple cameras. What do you all use? What do you like? What don't you like?

Any info is appreciated. Much thanks.

You mean an alarm system??

I like the one like on the commercial where a guy is breaking into a house, and the woman dispatcher at the agency tells him( over the speaker) to get out of the house NOW and he runs like crazy...hahahahaha

Realistically..I don't have much faith in those things..The guards that respond are very low wage earners, and they have access to your house. Can ya trust em??

The agency also calls the cops when the alarm goes off. Most of the time, the alarm is set off erroneously from pets, rain, wind etc. Many cities like Chicago will fine you if they get too many false alarm calls on your house. Plus, after a few false alarms, the cops don't investigate fully. They give it a once over and leave.. My family members are cops and they curse those things, as most of the time it's a false alarm..

If youre talking about a system just for in home use that monitors the baby's room etc..I can't help ya as I have no info on em

You have to build your IDS based on your needs. There is no single great system, otherwise that single system would be exploited to all hell.

What do you all use? What do you like? What don't you like?

You do realize that this is a bit like asking someone, "What ATM PIN combo do you, what do you like?"

I have an ADT home system, 3 doors to my house are all rigged and one motion sensor that watches the front door landing and kitchen windows.

I am single and live alone so I like having something watching my back when I am away, especially since I am downtown all day for work.

Have had no issues with the system and I can control it from my phone.... it had the option to just turn the door alarms on and leave the motion sensor off if you have pets or want it on while you are home cause you have a crazy ex or some shit. They offer lots of extra upgrades if you want more shit though, cameras, more motion sensors, window sensors like the doors, you can get pretty crazy.

I think an ADT system is perfect for a guy like me, I don't imagine I will have many false alarms, only other person with a key to my house is my Dad and he knows the security system, I can see where it could become a pain in the ass for the Cops with people who have it but have kids or relatives or pets coming in and out and shit.

Yeah I know, I just gave away my secrets so CCS spies will come break in now right? Nah man my bitchy old neighbor also watches my house like a Hawk lol

Don't skip physical security. Grade 1 deadbolts with security strike installed using 3 inch or longer screws.

I went with heavy wooden castle doors I have to bar with a big ass post... it makes getting in or out after locking the door tricky to say the least

I have several security cameras hooked up to a dvr. I originally had 2 wireless ones hooked up to a vcr and it was terrible. Obviously vcr is not the way to go constantly switching tapes then trying to actually find anything on it. And I wouldnt recommend the wireless cameras either. Since I have alot of other wireless devices theres was almost always interference from something. So if I used the house phone the picture on the wireless camera would be staticy and messed up.

I ended up buying everything separate on amazon since the kits never seemed to have exactly what I wanted. 500gb security dvr that can be connected to the internet so I can view it from my phone anywhere. Wide angle cameras with night vision. The regualr angle ones had a very narrow view. Some really long cords for cheap on amazon. Just have to drill some holes in the wall for the cords and put one of those cable cord plates to cover it.

Try to make a long story short. A few years ago I lost my job and house and moved into a trailer. The first week here someone broke into my wifes car and stole the radio. I put up security cameras and spotlights and never had a problem since. Just the fact that people see the cameras and the area in front of my trailer is well lit seems to prevent anybody doing anything stupid. Probably dont even need to record anything anymore.

Edit. It also helps that everyone in the area knows I have a huge english mastiff whos very protective. The sign on my front door has a mastiff on it and says "you may get in but your not getting out".

Get dummy cameras if you can't afford the real deal. Amazon has some real looking dummy camera's that even move or have a blinking light. Don't get those $4 cameras that look like toys.

I usually just blast the 'squeal like a pig' scene from deliverance really loud. Works better than a camera or motion sensors.
