So I had a hornet's nest above the garage door that I got rid of the other day. It was about the size of a softball. I sprayed it with raid and ran back in the house. Did this a few more times until there was none flying around no more. Then I knocked the nest off and stepped on it. Then the usual yellow pus came out, but there was also some red pus. Anyone know what the red pus is all about? I'm guessing the yellow is the stuff from the larvae probably, but what's with the red?

Best to do that just after sundown when their all home.

Oh did not know that!
A few hours after the whole thing I went out to check and there were still some flying around looking for their home.
Sort of felt bad for them... They looked totally lost like "WTF!! I swear the house was right here!!"

They might just build a new one somewhere else on your garage.

They also might be out for your blood, you did murder their mom and all their children.

 I have better weapons ready for them now. I've been studying up on youtube.

My grandpa used to make me take care of the hornets nest around the barn. He'd hand me a broom stick, rag and bucket of diesel fuel and say here you go lol. I was probably ten.

Last year I found out that fuel kills them instantly. I was quite surprised.

Best to do that just after sundown when their all home.

Early morning when they are cold and immobile- works for wasps, bees, and hornets.

As a kid, we had a neighbor who was a dick. (probably wasnt really...but we were kids).
My buddy had a hornet nest in his garage.
We grabbed a big paper grocery bag and knocked the nest in to it one day before the sun came up rolled the top and stapled it shut.
About 11 that morning, we ran down to the dick neighbors house with it, shook the bag up really good, tore it open and chucked it over the dudes fence.

Dont know if he got stung or not, but we liked to imagine them swarming him.

I've never been stung by a bee or wasp and now I'm terrified because it has been put off so long. I haven't built up any resistance and I don't know what to expect.

They’re pretty much immobile at dark...
We used a little gas in a wide cup... one quick splash at enerance and instantly dead... wasp spray on the house of course... not gas.
At my Dads place we’d find them big as basketballs... most still hang dead in the barn.
We’d break the limb and hang it... there’s a half dozen or so. You don’t **** with them in daylight that’s for sure.
We don’t kill bees... their valuable... just wasps/hornets.

I know the worst way to get rid of them.

1. Put the nest in a bag.
2. Freak out.
3. Lose your shit, drop the bag
4. Run away getting stung.

I don't see how anything could go wrong with that scenario
