How does Pargo get this kind of press?

While that is the dream scenario for the Lakers, they will be a player in the summer regardless. The team will only have seven players under contract this summer, and could loo overhaul its point guard rotation. Derek Fisher took another step backward this season as he cannot stay in front of point guards anymore. The problem is made worse because he was shooting 38 percent from the floor. Jordan Farmar will be a restricted free agent, and might end up suckering some team into giving him a long-term offer sheet. If the team chooses to use part of its mid-level exception, Luke Ridnour or Raymond Felton could be options. The team could also bring in a number of cheap options. Fisher may very well stick around at a severely discounted price. Jackson was a fan of Jannero Pargo the last time he was with the Lakers. Randy Foye, Chris Duhon, Steve Blake, Earl Watson, Marcus Williams, Jamaal Tinsley, and Sergio Rodriguez are other potentially affordable free agents who could make some sense.

Discuss.

Clearly Pargo is the greatest point guard ever to grace the basketball court.

Fisher is a horrible defender and not that great of a shooter. So lets replace him with a horrible shooter and not that great of a defender in Pargo ...

This may be true, but Fisher can do a couple things that Pargo can't: 1) flop and draw ridiculous charges and 2) hit clutch shots.

Depends on the environment. Pargo looked decent in NO. There are a lot of people that would look good on Lakers that wouldn't anywhere else i.e Farmar, Brown, Vujacic, Fisher, etc.

Fisher actually did well in Utah while he was there. He still did the things he was expected to do: flop and hit clutch shots. Anyone remember that one game where he came late after seeing his sick daughter and he that corner 3?

Hey I'm not supporting Pargo, he doesn't even belong in the league, but on any team other than the Lakers Fisher is an end of bench scrub. He has to be the worst player ever to start on 4 championship teams.

He hit shots when the Lakers needed them, and made some good defensive plays. That has a lot of value in this league where a lot of people shrink in crunch time.

I don't know what the stats are for the playoffs, but Fisher shot 32% during clutch time for the regular season. Last year he shot 25%. He's less clutch than even Kirk Hinrich.

Guys like Fisher and Horry are nothing special, they're just guys who are in the right place at the right time. We don't like to admit chumps like them get lucky while stars go ringless, so we make up ridiculous mythologies about how they can hit big shots that others can't. And we back it up with selective memory, which leads us to believing Fisher taking a couple of charges is great defensive play, and hitting a couple of threes in game 7 makes up for his 0-10 performance through the first 6 games.

Guess game 2 for Fisher means little then. ;)

Well no disrespect intended to Fisher, he does have value to the Lakers: he's a known quantity who will accept his role, bring the ball up the court and dump it off to Kobe and not chuck up bad shots. I certainly don't think Pargo is a guy who would do that. But that says a lot more about Pargo than Fisher.
