We average 4-5 k in vacations each year between trips to new places or to see family at Christmas. I dont condider the money lost or wasted though. We generally avoid expensive dining and take advantage of local supermarkets for breakfast, lunch and drinks. A cooler is always a checked bag for us.

I have enough tax loss carry forwards from my gambling account to ride a couple more years. lost a lot yesterday on paper. lose change all the time but I think my daughter is just stealing it and filling up her piggy bank. i bought a scratch off today and lost 20 bucks.
