I personally don't like sweet potatoes, but I eat a lot of them. When I make sweet potato fries, they taste less sweet which makes them more bearable. But anyway... does anyone know what to add to make them less sweet/taste better?

Some of the starch converts to sugar when you add heat. Some of the sugar will caramelize when you add heat. So cooking sweet potatoes is a double-whammy if you don't want them to be sweet. Unfortunately they are, what they are, sweet, and you can't run from it. You could cold soak pealed sweet potatoes to soften them, then cook them normally in fresh water. Or you could steam them, flash fry them, even microwave them.

The simplest method would be to doctor them up with a complimentary flavor from a fat and meat(like a roast, or maybe use them to your advantage to sweeten up some pork or turkey).

I dislike that many varieties of sweet potatoes exist with a very wide variety of different tastes. Yet, we only recognize yams and camotas as sweet potatoes.

I'm not a big fan of regular sweet potatoes, but I really love sweet blue and purple potatoes(which are only sweet when cooked after being harvested somewhat fresh, before the sugars oxidate into the remaining starchy flesh IIRC). The blue and purple kinds taste very different.

I'm guessing you made this thread, because including 'sweet potatoes' into a diet is an inexpensive and easy addition of a super-food into your diet. For that reason, I agree. It's good to find some way to like them if you dislike them as is. I hated them as a kid. In the last 4 years or so, I have really started to love them (pending the recipe, of course.)

I used to feel the same way until I stopped being such a finicky ***** about food.

But a nice prep I like is to parboil cubes, cool and wrap in bacon then roast until crisp. dip them badboys in buffalo ranch. bam.

Yeah I usually buy the Japanese sweet potatoes or the ones that just aren't orange. They're a bit better tasting imo.

I'm hoping the more I eat them, the more I'll like them. They've grown on me a little bit, but adding them with other foods has been an issue taste wise for me.

Although I did make this one sauce with coconut butter and garlic that tasted pretty good with baked sweet potato.

Wait. what?

Food sensitivities + this anti-inflammatory diet I'm following. They're healthy and it's one very healthy food that my pussy stomach agrees with.

Ahh, the dreaded nightshade sensitivity. Seriously, Good luck, IMO, that's the trickiest diet to maneuver around. Harder than gluten sensitivity(although many who have partial or complete nightshade sensitivity have gluten sensitivity too). I feel bad for you there, because this is one sensitivity that gets worse with age, and the body rarely builds a tolerance for it.

Yep. Yams will be your friend.

Yeah it really really sucks haha. Especially since I LOVE spices, tomatoes and white potatoes.

As long as it brings benefits, I find a way to be okay with it though haha.
