Katrina was a cat 3. This is 7MPH from a cat 5. Any other time it would be yuge news. RIP.

Luck that it hit where it did, about 80 miles one way or the other and it would have a disaster of epic proportions.

My wife has friends/family in both NOLA & Galveston Island....so she was trying not to feel guilty about being thrilled where it made landfall.

Yeah I've been affected by a hurricane all four years that I've lived where I do now (only one was really bad, and not for me directly but for some people in the community). That guilt is always there.

Same. My wife's grandparents live near NOLA. They got wind and rain but after going through Katrina they were in the same situation of trying not to feel guilty about landfall.

This was bigger than Katrina. But, I think in the end Katrina did more damage. Katrina was a slow moving storm that just pounded. This is absolutely horrific but seems to be moving quite fast.

Also the spot where it landed seemed to be favorable, limiting the storm surge.

No more fucking power outages.
I'm looking at buying one of those Generacs that run off natural gas.
Power outages will keep getting worse as the weather gets more extreme by the year.
