Rockford, Ill.- The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Friday that the National Hockey League club has recalled goaltender Carter Hutton from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

Hutton, 26, has compiled a 17-9-3 record, including two shutouts, and a .915 save percentage with a 2.50 goals against average in 32 regular-season tilts with the IceHogs this year. The netminder has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week twice for Rockford, after helping the IceHogs pick up five of six standings points (2-0-0-1) during Week 22 (period ending on March 4) and picking up wins in all four of his starts (4-0-0) in Week 17 (period ending on Jan. 22).

The netminder has also appeared in 14 games with the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye with 7-7-0 record.

The Thunder Bay, Ontario, native has posted a 29-18-6 record with four shutouts in 58 career AHL contests with Rockford, Worcester (2010-11) and Adirondack (2009-10) following a collegiate career at the University of Massachusetts–Lowell.

Next Home Game: Tuesday, March 20 vs. Hamilton. The Bulldogs are in town for the second and final matchup against the IceHogs in 2011-12. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Taco Bell Dollar Days continue Tuesday night with beers, hot dogs, soft drinks and companion tickets available for just one dollar a piece.

Well, looks like Crawford will clearly be getting tonight's start with Emery apparently too ill to sit on the bench.

Good for Hutton. Kid's worked his ass off to fill in for the Ice Hogs when Salak decided to be a headcase.

Really tells you how far back Salak has fallen if he started camp as the #2 goalie in the organization and now he's probably #4 at best.

headcase how? what's his deal?

There was this, taken from Chris Block's "Third Man In" blog:

The Wolves came at him hard, as they had in two previous contests back in October (Salak’s first two starts of the season), bumping and crowding the goaltender’s crease often. Previously, those sorts of actions seemed to nudge Salak off his focus, once even causing Salak to throw his equipment across the ice

There was also an incident where he gave up three or four goals in the final minute of a game and reportedly left the ice with time still left on the clock. Trying to find something that explains it in better detail ... but I've read in a ton of places that he's really lost his teammates with some of his antics this season.

The Blackhawks were basically forced to sign Hutton to a contract because there was no way they were going to bring up Salak after a few of his actions. It looks like he might be going back to Europe after this year.

They had better get some more depth in the goaltending department then.

Thanks for the heads up. I had no idea. 3 goals in the final minute....sounds like he'd be a perfect fit with the Hawks. :D

Maybe when he heads to Europe he can spend some time catching up with Huet. Sounds like they have a lot in common.

Unfortunately your right...3 goals in final minute is right on par with our goalies. Lol
