Here's the problem.

My A.C. unit sits on top of a square plastic base that is hollow underneath.

One or more mice dug in and have made it their home.

We put out mouse poison and it's always gone by the next day.

Yesterday while outside, I saw one behind the unit and he went into a new hole behind the thing.

I put out poison and he was nibbling it within 5 minutes but he didn't eat much.

Does anyone know if it would be safe to put 4 bricks under the base to keep it off the ground?

Either that or maybe someone has a better idea.

It's a townhouse so I doubt they would let me mount a bracket on the side of the house to raise it up.

You should put out peppermint oil. At least I think it is peppermint oil. I'll try to check on that. That Dr Bader guy said that will keep rodents away because they don't like it. I think it has to be real oil of peppermint and not an extract.

It is pure peppermint oil and you are suppose to put it on cotton balls and put it in places where they go. You'd probably have to check and make sure it is OK to use it there.

Here is something I found on the internet about it.

This is the time of year we get mice. We live back off the road and there are barns behind us so we get about 3 a year. My husband read in Mother Earth news, that you can make your mouse problem go away for good. Put peppermint oil on cotton balls and stick them in holes, under cabinets and any other area you fear a mouse might enter. People even took off parts of paneling and put them inside the walls. For some reason mice do not like the peppermint and are deterred. Sound much better than finding them on those old nasty sticky mouse things that probably still has a live mouse on it or those ugly traps that just broke the little guys neck. Anyway, it is cheap and worth a try.

I have always heard aluminum foil will make them go away because when they step on it, they hear the noise it makes and will not enter.

Mice are also attracted to insulation. Fiberglass and such. If you set a regular trap, try some insulation or Styrofoam. Its better then cheese or peanut butter, which they also like, but it doesn't attract ants and other pests.

Good call!

I didn't even think of that and ants are an issue too for sure.

The ants even jump right on the mouse poison!

I just don't want you to handle poisons if you don't have to. They are icky.
