The article states that they have been fighting over a land dispute since 2008....but that dispute predates the Vietnam war. There have always been some time of small scale skirmishes along certain parts of their borders. Never really grows beyond that....more of a tribal-like issue IMO.

I think this is precisely why we hardly ever see eye to eye. Nobody has gotten along since the beginning of time, and that will NEVER change, even in some mythical desire.

The Siberain Traps were what is regarded as the largest on-land fissure volcano eruptions that we know if in recorded history. Basically, the "traps" portion is I believe a translation of "steps" since the flood basalts have a stair-like pattern. Anyhow, what they figure is that the eruptions that produced them happened at the Permian/Triassic extinction event, which was the largest extinction event that we know of. Theory is that the Siberian Traps eruption was the main contributing factor to the P-T extinction event.Wikipedia link
