I got on yahoo a little while ago and the first thing that greets me Is "2012 End of the World Countdown.". I am so tired of hearing about this stuff. I'd rather bury my head in the sand. Life is tragic enough. If it happens, it happens and there is nothing I can do to stop it anyway. If it is the last year of my life I just want to live it normally. It scares me that some people actually make life decisions based on this kind of stuff.

Anyone else have any thoughts or opinions?

All I have to say is this Mayan stuff makes no sense to me. They predicted the end of the world yet they couldn't predict the downfall of their own civilization. Doesn't seem to realistic.

They didn't predict the end of the world. It is a misinterpretation. But good joke, eh.

Yeah didn't they just have a lunar based calendar but they just didn't calculate it past 2012?

My thoughts exactly, Bri. Bottom line is, and we said this with Y2K, if the end is coming there is nothing you can do about it.

You know Bri it's a little known fact that a code exists on hockey message boards that indicates the world will end when the Canucks somehow show up in the playoffs.

Yeah, basically the "long count" ends sometime in December 2012, but there is no evidence of the Mayans having any doomsday scenarios happening once a new cycle begins. The notion of something cataclysmic happening then is just Western New Age rubbish. All those that bought all this 2012 nonsense are going to feel mighty silly when 2012 moves into 2013 without any bigger incidents and those that cashed in on it with a bunch of poorly researched books will be laughing to the bank. However I wouldn't be surprised if some nutty cults commit mass suicide on the date when it's all supposed to go down.

I dont believe in it all but i do enjoy the stories and i love seeing how so much western bias gets mixed into the prophesies as a means to sell them to a larger western audience.

Its all fun if you ask me.
