This may sound ridiculous, but I was thinking in the wake of game 6 how terrible it would be not to love sports. With all their flaws at times, how horrible it would be to not have this big rooting interest in something and see it triumph so precisely in one moment.

I've been successful in investments/business and other things, and it's satisfying to do well, but it's a slow process. It's not like the ultimate wave of joy you feel watching your team pull off something miraculous.

I just watch this now, and I'm filled with enough joy that I'm near tears literally. It's not that the game was that important to me or that I love the team that much, but it's the process of watching something great and pure in that moment. A feeling that I think every person strives for in their life of pure triumph and victory and domination against odds that seem stacked against you. Of coming back and winning when no one think you can, and doing so in such an explosive and unpredictable fashion.

What I love about this series is this is what playing sports is all about: giving it your all on every play, never quitting, and rising to the challenge.

Heck, A-Rod was seen with HGH and it was a "big" story yesterday, but NO ONE CARES. This series has gripped the entire nation, and is trully one of better stories in sports in the last 10 years.

Actually Doug, i dont agree..i said this on another board..these last 2 weeks have been exhilarating as hell no doubt, but that feeling after a painful loss that we die hards endure all the time is not to be envied. Having my emotions emulate a sine curve from day to day is draining. Dont tell me there havent been times where you wish you didnt care so much..

That being said..i wouldnt trade this for anything. GO BULLS!!

what sucks is no one around me really understands just how much i love the bulls so whenever they win it's just "oh, they'll just lose tomorrow" and win they lose "well what did you expect..."

when we lost game 2 my sister hit me with the latter. that was a really tight game too. when we lost game 5, directly after the game said, "i thought they were out by now"...gee thanks mom

That's the issue with it - you have to take the bitter lows, because without 'em you don't get the exhilerating highs.

That is what sports are all about. There are alot more downs then ups. Especially when expectations are involved. I always say that my favorite Bulls season was in 2004, when we started 0-9 and came roaring back to 47 wins. That year I expected nothing and it made every single game such a joy to watch. As we got better and my expectations rose, that only made the wins that much less satisfying and the losses only that much more agonizing.

I still have no expectations. That has made this series, which has been so ungodly amazing, that much more amazing. I only wish the Bulls could suck a little longer, so I could have a few more of these unexpected wins! Next season the expectations start and its all down hill from here!

I don't think the lows bother me nearly as much as the highs leave me exhilarated, but ask me that again on Saturday around 10.

Win or lose (next game), I am really satisfied and loved the team and the toughness and all.

After we lost that 3rd game, I was convinced that we would be done in 5 or 6 games but forcing game 7 and had chance to win the other games - is really you can not ask for more.

Also, when I see Perkins/Big Baby/Rondo playing out of their minds and Allen getting career playoff high against us and we still have the series tied at 3 a piece???

I am super excited for the future of this team and just love the team right now - I won't change my opinion whether we lose or win the next game.

What is depressing about losing (in the playoffs especially) I think, isn't so much the sting of losing a particular game or even losing a game 7, though that would hurt for a while no doubt, but that you don't get to watch your team again in any meaningful fashion for about 6 months.

It's the 'going home' part that is tacked on to the end of the losing that makes it so bad. If the Bulls lost to the Celtics on Saturday and then began playing pre-season games a week after the Finals, it wouldn't be nearly so bad. And only 1 team gets to enjoy the summer coming off a win. Even the Celtics should they advance, will likely have their season end in the same fashion this year. But being able to prolong that finality, even a short time, just keeps that high of being a fan alive.

Then if you have other extenuating circumstances like the roster being rearranged or potential of losing good players like Ben Gordon, you know you likely won't get to see a particular team ever again.

Mitigated for me by the fact that I love the NBA off season. The NBA draft is one of my favorite sporting events, and I love summer league seeing as though I get to go to it and interview players.

I also get more info about players in the summer, and I love going over cap numbers and free agency and seeing everything change.

It bogs down around August, but then you only have to make it 2 months until preseason starts.

Same here, the NBA Draft is probably my favorite "sporting event" if I had to choose. The great thing about moving on in the playoffs (even if you know we're going to eventually lose) is that it cuts down on the "off-time" for me until the draft. Missing the playoffs sucks because it seems like the draft and lottery are still forever away, but making it to the second round cuts down on that down time a bunch, meaning you have something to look forward to right away after a series loss since the draft festivities are starting up soon after that.
