This was a discussion with a friend several days ago. Brouwer with a hatty tonight

Brouwer was a pending UFA. The Hawks traded his rights for Washington's 1st rounder that turned into Phillip Danault. McPhee was on record that he belived this was a relatively weak draft so he pulled the trigger on the deal.

Brouwer struggled in the last 1/4 of last season. Frolik did as well but had two great games in the playoff series against Vancouver.

Frolik signs a 3 year deal with a cap hit at $2.33 million per.

Brouwer signs a 2 year deal with a cap hit at $2.35 million per.

Frolik: 42 games, 5 goals, 8 assists, 13 points, -5, 40 hits

Brouwer: 41 games, 11 goals, 9 assists, 20 points, -1, 139 hits( Not including tonights hat trick)

Penalty killing numbers are comparable as far as TOI and goals against on ice.

Flame away. But it was not Skille vs Frolik. It turned out to be Frolik vs Brouwer. So far, Junior has lost this one big time.

Frolik hasn't produced as much as we hoped, but I still like him.

He seems to be putting in 100% effort almost every night, and he has talent. Seems to be snakebitten as far as scoring goals though, but I believe it might come. He has heart and brings energy.

Brouwer is also talented, but was invisible most nights. He was better off with a fresh start somewhere else, and we got something in return.

Brunette was brought into replace brouwer not frolik. Frolik and brouwer played together last season.

You don't deserve a username and password either.......................I would take Brouwer back in a heartbeat. Put him with Bolland and Hossa and that's a second line that scores and checks.

There was nothing really wrong with brouwer. Bowman moved him to start marking his own name on the team. Can't really be upset that guys like stalberg took his spot though. Guys like brunette maybe? Although there nothing really that bad with brunette playing lower lines and minutes. Bickell didn't need to stay or frolik but who knew they would be this bad? Both showed signs and flashes last year. Sometimes you gotta gamble. Hindsight is easy.

I would say a first rounder for brouwer makes him pretty damn valuable. Even if it was low.

Only sometimes. It's amazing how players worth increases after they have left.

Either that or fan's memories erode with age.

Brouwer was not a consistent checker when he was here.

He couldn't stick with Kane and Toews.

But yes, let's rewrite history so we can pine for something that didn't exist.

You're right, there was nothing wrong with Brouwer. He was a decent third/fourth liner.

Lots of those in the NHL.

He was nothing special.
