Take features of games, past and present, and make your ideal NBA Basketball Simulation(not Jam/arcade types)! Your game can include whatever you want, as long as it fits in the mold of a simulation style sports game(not a manager, but like NBA Live/NBA 2K). You can also introduce new ideas, and improvements.

From beginning to end.

Create-A-Player
  • Start with a skeleton(not bones, but a bare/basic model)
  • Customize every body part. No more BS like Ripped, Fat, ect. You could change every muscle within range, you could make legs longer or shorter, wingspan adjustable, and adjust the hands and feet. This will all create changes in how your player looks and feels, as well as how they play the game.
  • The variables in the body would then play a role in determining the athletic abilities. It wouldn't play a complete role, but it would make up for a reasonable amount of the in-game physics and abilities.
  • A facial customization menu that allows you to create virtually any head possible. Within the menu, you could import a picture to go along with that character.
  • The ability to name your player, give them a DATE of birth, hometown, school/origin(you would have to type the school/origin in to allow more than just the list gives you, with auto-fill, your school might come up right away) and a preferred number. You would also have a voice editor to take the announcers simulated voice, and match the name to audio and save it however you would like.
  • The out-dated 0-99 scales have to go. Physics are involved here, so lets take the physical attributes, and apply new skills, and let them play a separate role in how the player turns out.
  • Have templates and randomizers for those who are on the fly.
  • You will no longer be able to assign a player a position. But naturally, by the build and attributes, you will fall into one of the positions by role, and by the team's needs.

Create a Skill
  • You would have to learn and earn new moves in the game. This would allow you to do more than just the current list of moves. You can customize handling styles, passing styles, layup moves, shooting form, free throw form, dunk abilities and all specialties. There will be default templates to get you started, and you'll have a few choices of special moves to start off.
  • If you want to enter the dunk contest, you could develop dunks.
  • You can trade your skills with other people online.

NBA Draft
  • Ability to import/create and manipulate draft classes.
  • A Draft Combine.
  • Fan ratings, team needs, and star potential ratings for players that were scouted.
  • Summer League Invitation, and ability to play your own character similar to "My Player".
  • Auto-draft CPU-everything would also be an option.

Contract Negotiations
  • Dynasty/Association modes would be similar to what exists now.
  • As a "My Player" you could test free agency and go through a legit process with an agent.
  • Endorsement contracts, negotiations, and your sponsor will give you inputs on where they want you to play, and help you bring other top players to your team.
  • D-League call-ups and send-downs.
  • Raise the scope of trade partners from the standard 2-3 to 5.
  • Allow drafting of potential foreign prospects for their draft rights, and take a risk to bring them in later.
  • Coaching pools, and contract signing in more depth. Allow bringing up coaches from the D-League as well, and hiring ex-players to the staff.

Drills, Exhibition, Random Play
  • Famous outdoor courts from all over the world. Good for multiplayer and BSing.
  • Practice facilities, and customizations for you in some kind of owner mode.
  • 3pt shootout
  • Horse
  • Skills Challenge
  • Dunk Contest
  • Shooting drills to refine shooting skills
  • Rebounding drills to refine rebounding
  • play sets, for calling plays and running both sides of the court
  • ball handling, stealing, blocking, intangibles.

Simulation Play and CPU Simulation
  • Summer League, Pre-Season, Regular Season schedules.
  • Allow for a rivalry rating, and the ability to create new rivalries based on position battles, power rankings, playoff matches ect.
  • Better Arena accuracy. NBA Live had better arena accuracy than NBA 2K-current gen, and I have been disappointed that the venues have not been revisited.
  • Basketball based on better physics. Use of pressure to determine how much power goes into the jump, or if it is just raising that hand, instead of it being randomly automated.
  • Flops, technical fouls, fights, and trash talk to round out the reality of the game. You can raise the rivalry rating or get suspended, maybe get a free trip to the free throw line. They can also change your player trade/resign values up or down, depending on what and how.

Stats
  • Better all-time record keeping. ie: Not just most points scored in a game or season, but a list of the top 50 highest X-stat performances. Game/Season/Career/Team/Playoffs/Finals.
  • A league Leaders Board, similar to that of ESPN.com or most sites.
  • Ehlo ratings or similar. Compare yourself to the all-time players, not just one season.

Commentary
  • You can pick from how you would like to hear the commentators. It could be TV broadcast style, Homer broadcast, radio, classic ect.
  • The playoffs will have different tracks for the commentating.
  • Importing commentating tracks, so you can share these with your friends ect. Make your own, add lines for when certain events occur.

Accessories and Shoes
  • Endorsements to wear certain items.
  • All of the *-band goodies that exist now.
  • Download new shoe releases sponsored by your favorite companies. Have all old and new basketball shoes in the game.
  • Allow a shoe collection feature.
  • Have every Jersey available from the past and present.

Create a Team feature
  • Similar to Madden and old Live games
  • you could create your own team
  • move your franchise
  • expansions

I know I am forgetting a lot still, but I think this is all possible, if a developer can get the right physics engine in place to start the development. Also allow the fans to add content in certain places to add new levels of fun to the game.

props for putting in that much work....but can all that fit on a disc? I mean...I'd think that most of these things have been tried to be added...but it's just not plausible to do all of it and still have smooth game-play.

Perhaps a super huge PC version could handle all that. For a console, that might be a bit much. There's a bunch of stuff in 2k11 that's sorta like what you asked for (my player mode for one). Things like Summer league, draft combine, endorsements, and maybe a couple others exist already. Maybe they're not up to your standard, but seeing as how I can't afford this new fancy gaming technology, I really wouldn't know for sure. I know Oblivion has a pretty darn good facial feature engine thing so perhaps if they used something like that they could get something like what you're looking for. Actually...I wouldn't mind something like that either. I hate the premade faces. I think NBA Street Vol 3 had a a pretty mediocre editor for facial features, at the very least they could do that.

I agree for commentary as well, but the cost of that is probably pretty high. As far as physics and techs/other stuff go, I'd love that too, but that would be pretty hard to put into games as it is. Perhaps one day they'll get it though. I have a feeling that things like technicals would annoy people, but whatever. They don't matter. :dealwithit: I totally agree on the whole name, date of birth, school, voices, and all that stuff. I hate when you create a player and they just get called "Number _____".

I agree with a lot more of what you said, but some things I just don't think are feasible right now, or cost effective. Then again, this is an ideal game so I suppose that's moot. xD

I definitely think so.

Hell, I think you can do a lot more in Grand Theft Auto, than you can do in a sports game. Why is this? Well, it's simple, they first get the physics engine right, and everything else is a matter of managing development teams to get the content going.

Yes, this is very true about just making a wishlist of sorts. :)

But I do think it's realistic. Factor in that a sports platform will stretch out for 3-5 years with it's current engine and interface. Imagine a long run development project(like many of the best sports games do have) and then see them release big content to the upgrades every season? Lets say they do 2/3rds of my list for 2014, then 2015 they release a chunk more, with all of the updates, 2016 another good chunk, and stuff I haven't thought of. By the 3rd year, on a sports game development budget, this becomes a reality, then some.

Hey I'm all for it. At the very least get the freaking name, date of birth, school/origin, and the PA guy saying his name down. Goodness...that's the easiest part.

I agree with Crystallas on the create-a-player.

NBA 2K needs to do a better job with that. You can't make a realistic looking white guy. The lightest skin tone is like Deron Williams. You put blonde hair on that skin tone and it looks goofy.

I always wanted to see a retro game. 2K is doing some of that with 11 and 12. But I would like to see a game called NBA 1988.

You would have all the real players and teams from 1988. You would have all the old uniforms and old arenas and you would just play that season. The game could have the old CBS presentation.

Try making an Asian guy. It doesn't work. :turrible:

Freaking racists...Asians can play basketball too. :kermit:

LOL, I don't think most of the black guys look right either. Brook Lopez and LeBron James type faces are the easiest to replicate in 2K.

Seriously, they just need to fix that whole process. Just look at all the games out there that have better face creators and take that and put it into the game. Not that hard 2k....
