So Del Negro and Casey are in the running for the Clippers HC job. When July 1st-8th come rolling around, Vinny is hired and the Sterling knows LeBron is not an option, does Vinny vouch for Deng? If the FO wanted Deng but Sterling wanted LeBron and that is out of the question, maybe the HC w/ experience with the SF can put the argument over the top.

Trade Deng for Rasual Butler and a future pick.

We free up about 6M to add depth to the bench and you could plug in Butler as your starting SG. Not exactly the bucket maker he used to be from 3 but he's worth the spot. And please no one come in here and talk about matching salaries, we're both under the cap.

Sounds good to me. The clippers should already know that Lebron isn't an option and will probably stay in the East anyway. If Vinny does go there having someone that he knows would be a bad idea especially someone he likes

Depends on who the bulls get if they even wanna trade Deng. That'll be more of a deciding factor than who gets the Clippers HC job.

I'm fine with Deng for a 2nd round pick.

We should NOT trade Deng for nothing... it's a damn good thing some of you guys aren't GM...

I mean there has to be a backup, if there is no one available then don't trade Deng but if you can sign players who can come cheaper and put up better stats, go for it. Even 2 players for Deng's contract. Also Dend has a tendacy to be injured.

This is assuming we get LeBron and Bosh.

Oh and we do get something. We get Rasual Butler and a pick. :)

If the Bulls trade Deng then they are down to having only their 2 best players left from last season. This is a team that would be almost completely lacking an identity...

Deng - gone
long-time guards Hinrich
and Gordon - gone
Salmons - gone
Tyrus - gone

in all likelihood,

Brad is gone
Warrick likely gone
Murray maybe gone

We can't just throw good players away like trash when you only have 5 players under contract... and only 4 good ones... they have too much space to throw away a player like Deng for nothing

Deng disappears too often to have an identity. People forget who he even is.

So if you had Bron/Bosh in the bag, you wouldnt trade Deng for a chance to add depth to this team and to let LeBron play in his natural position? IF we get those two guys, we have no money to add anything to our bench but DLeague type players. We cant afford vet minimums or anything. An extra 6M wont get you anything special but you can get a couple reliable vets who will make some shots and not blow leads if you add them to Taj. Id feel much more comfy having an average SG in the lineup to build a better bench. Theres enough young rising talent in the starting 5 to make up for Butler and I think saying he sucks is harsh. Id trust Rasual shooting corner 3s with the attention our big 3 will command.

yeah I understand that Deng + James + Bosh = basically no room for anybody else. But they at least (I'm pretty sure) go farther over the cap to re-sign Murray, Miller, and Warrick - maybe not all 3 but yeah...

But if you trade Deng now, that is a big risk. Do you really think that Rose + Noah in itself looks very enticing to free-agents like LeBron James? Not on a depth and talent basis.

This team has already lost a lot of depth and talent over the past 12 months... and a coach... do you really want to lose Deng BEFORE July even starts???

Once again, this is assuming that the FO already knows James and Bosh are coming.

But this argument is more for the Deng thread. The idea of this thread is that do you think Vinny would have any influence on a move for Deng being made?

It's nice to hear that Vinny is in consideration for another head coaching job. He has the brass for coaching. He really helped our young guys develop by giving them freedom on the court, I could see him being a great fit for the Clippers after having to deal with Dunleavy.
