The MLE, which should be around $5.6 million.

Looking at the fa list there are only a few gaurds i can see taking the mle ,Luther Head,Flip Murray Anthony Parker maybe..Big men who might take the mle ,Etan THomas? Brian Skinner ?Steven Hunter ? Bring back Joe Smith? Theres not going to be a whole lot to choose from with only the mle to spend..None of these guys knock my socks off..But theres a whole summer to unfold yet..

A good reference for this is hoopshype.com. You can check out any team's salaries in the Salaries section on the top menu bar. Also check out wikipedia for a step by step breakdown of the salary cap.

Basically the Bulls are on hook for $63mill nxt season, which means they already exceed the salary cap, but since the NBA salary cap is a "soft" cap, teams are allowed to exceed the cap to resign their own players (Larry Bird rights) without penalty. There's also the mid-level exception, bi-annual exception, & rookie exception which can all be used to go over the cap. A team is only penalized when it exceeds the Luxury Tax Threshold which was around $72mill this yr.

So basically if BG signs elsewhere, all the Bulls have is the Mid-Level, Bi-annual, & rookie exceptions. But they will already be over the cap anyway at $63 & the LT Threshold is going to be less next season too. So there's really not much the Bulls can do in FA season.

Whoa were did you get that list of Bigs from the recently deceased list? Etan Thomas? he died years ago? Hunters knee is wobbly, Skinner is a nice 5-10 minutes guy, Joe Smith was and is and will always be a failure and it rubs off on when he is around.

After we sign both picks we will have about 3 million under the LT and need to fill tow more roster spots.

No crap & if we're gonna use the MLE, I say try for Gortat. He's 6-11, athletic, a good post defender, & runs the floor well.

I would have said Gortat except theres no way in hell he takes the mle..I was being realistic about guys who might actually take the mle..

Anyone who gives Lee or Gortat more than MLE is insane.

I think the days of crazy signings are over for awhile. The league has a lot of teams bleeding money that David Lee and Gortat better take the MLE and run. As someone else said, teams will be dumping contracts, so I'd hold out and see what's available.

Traditionally the MLE has been ones of the best ways to end up overpaying scrubs. Since every team has it to spend, players prices tend to get pushed up to the limit of it.

This year though, who knows? If teams are really trying to cut costs and not wanting to hand out big deals then there might be some value to be had.

Personally I think if Gordon goes you suck it up for a year and only sign short term deals and make as much cap space as you can for 2010. As unlikely as it is, swinging for the fences in 2010 is still the best move we can make.

If the Bulls are going to acquire a good player this offseason, it will probably be through a trade. I don't know what David Lee brings to this team that we don't already have in Noah. He racked up numbers since he was the only good big man that the Knicks had. I wouldn't mind signing a big like Amir Johnson with the MLE, but there's not much that we can do with that.

I'd probably wait till next year to use the MLE, but if I were to use it this year if Gordon leaves... I'd be intrigued with how Chris Wilcox would work on this roster. He'd be an upgrade over last season's Tyrus Thomas and a nice athletic forward to add to the mix.

oh, gortat will be ecstatic if he gets the MLE, he made 711k this season, i think we won't even have to use the full MLE on him. he averaged only 10.6 pts per 36 minutes, even if the 12.9 rebounds are pretty good. but he doesn't bring more than what noah brings, so i think maybe 3.5mil on gortat, and 2.5mil on marcus williams.

maybe if we trade hinrich, we can use part of the MLE on gortat and part on marcus williams, he could be a decent backup PG.

Erik Dampier is making $10+ mill its not possible, David Lee I could see getting more than the MLE, but if Gortat gets more than the MLE, then the NBA is once again in trouble, does anybody remember when the Sonics gave Jim Maccalvein 5yrs and $35mill(at that time that was big money
