My thread has nothing to do with the article really. It has to do with the prevailing attitude in the comments section.

So many people are saying, sleeping with a girl who has been drinking is rape regardless of their saying yes, or even if they were the aggressor.

First of all that whole mentality is fucked. They are acting as if Men are completely incapable of getting drunk themselves, and **** a girl they wouldnt touch with Grimsons dick if sober. All men arent from the jersey shore, having a sip of jager, then spending the rest of the night predating on fall down drunk girls.

Men or women should not be responsible for eachothers bad decisions from drinking. If you think you might **** someone you'll regret if you get drunk at a bar or house party, dont fuckin drink thats on you.

That shit is worlds away from pulling a Casper from kids. How the hell do these people even think casual sex usually happens? Two people meet in line at the starbucks then go **** in the back alley?

No they are partying drunk and horny that applies to both women and men

Remember it doesnt even matter if your married, if your wife gets drunk and you ****, you are a rapist.

Its a terrible double standard, and in fact I find it offensive to women because it insinuates women are incapable of thinking after one drink where as men are supposed to be the ones that can think and reason completely clearly all the time even after they drink a bottle of So Co.

Im sorry if Im drunk a girls drunk and were into eachother and she pulls an Andrea from walking dead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEQe_AhZ8Cw

You can bet your ass im not going to say "stop that, you arent thinking clearly, this would be rape on my part even though your the one innappropriately manhandling my junk".

Seriously this is fucking stupid. I'm with TSD, you get drunk and get plowed, it happens. If you are too fucked up to know what is going on and too fucked up to say no, ya know what the guy might be a scumbag (unless he's int he same shape you are) but that's on you.

unless im miss reading this, that I do not agree with. If a girl isnt even conscious or cant even speak, thats an entirely different story than just being drunk.

I dont care how drunk I am I have enough sense to know dropping the passed out girls panties and plowing her is wrong.

Agreed. There are some highly fucked up attitudes about what exactly constitutes rape.

Let me put this to rest. No body deserves to get struck by lighting, but you're at risk if you walk into a thunderstorm brandishing a coathanger over your head.

I used to drink a shit load. Not so much these days I have trailed off in that department. I find it interesting that even though I have been shit drunk out of my skull on many many occasions I don't think I have ever been to a point where I didn't know what sort of sexual events I was getting into or could be getting into. I have never blacked out either and I really don't know what that is like.

Because of that I have an extreme bias when alcohol becomes an excuse for someones actions. That's probably not fair of me because I am working from personal experiences only so it's hard for me to voice an opinion here. I think people are still aware of morals when intoxicated no matter how drunk they are.

I've been in a situation in which i drank too much and don't remember parts of the night and had a guy trying to get in my pants. long story short i woke up the next morning with scratches on my back and my underwear was missing. I never accused the guy of rape basically because i had no recollection of any sexual encounter, i do know he likes to pray on drunk girls but i still don't know what happened so i guess i can understand the argument but then on the other hand i have had a good buzz going on and called a guy for the specific reason of getting together so there is definitely a line between using alcohol as an excuse for questionable decisions and actually being too intoxicated to know what's happening

Well heres the thing, if you passed out and the bastard violated you that is fucking sick. Were you coherent thats another story, although if you were coherent, I would imagine you would at least remember doing it if not remembering any specifics.

Maybe its just me, but Ive been pretty fucked up but I always remember if I did the deed. ( I may have blacked out during the act, but I at least remember i did it the next day

True, but maybe not the greatest analogy since you can read this two ways; one, if you sleep with someone who is too drunk you're walking into the thunderstorm and two, if you're so drunk that you put yourself at risk... see?

Point is, it may not seem like rape at the time but it's really not worth putting yourself at risk either way considering the possible consequences (pregnancy, disease, criminal record, etc.). If the other person wouldn't #### you when you're both stone cold sober then just don't do it at all.

I find that most people can't just have sex without the help of a drink or something to "relax" them. Their mind gets in the way usually. I personally don't like to **** after drinking and sure as hell don't like to **** drunk women. My point is this: If you have to have something to take the edge off of what you are about to do, you probably don't really want to do it.

You need to find new people to know, your world appears to be small.

Sometimes people drink and just happen to **** but not necessarily drink to ****.

You may be right. I've actually stopped hanging out with a couple people (male and female) because they just can't go out and have a good time. They are constantly "on the prowl" and it gets really fucking old time after time. Just so happens that these two individuals can't do it without the help of alcohol.

My point was from the victim's point of view. If you go clubbing or onto some social scene where there's a bucnh of people, there's going to be people there that are looking for an easy score (be it guys looking for a woman inebriated enough to lack inhibitions and at least say "what the hell..." if not lacking the capacity to say "no"; or women looking for an easy score on an apparent rich man that they can mooch off of via threat of pregnancy). This is fact. You're walking into a thunderstorm. Now, if you've been drinking, it's like holding up a coathanger--it increases your risk and can attact the assholes and bitches looking to take advantage of you.

I don't think date rape is any less heinous, but it's much like having to walk through an area of a city in a foreign country that has a reputation for attracting pickpockets. You can either take steps to ensure you're not pickpocketed, or you can risk not taking steps and take your chances. It's still theft no matter how you slice it.
