7:05-7:05-1:20
Chris Carpenter, RHP
Stats
0-2, 4.19 ERA
Carpenter is off to a rocky start in 2011 and has yet to record a win through his first seven outings. He got hit hard in his last start, on Wednesday vs. Florida, when he allowed six runs (four earned) in six frames and made two errors.
Carlos Zambrano, RHP
Stats
4-1, 4.23 ERA
Zambrano picked up the win in his last outing against the Dodgers, his 10th straight win on the road. He has yet to win at home this season in three starts. Against the Cardinals last year, Zambrano was 2-0 with a 2.03 ERA.
Jake Westbrook, RHP
Stats
2-2, 6.14 ERA
Westbrook is coming on strong, with three straight quality starts after four rough ones to start the year. He's thrown more strikes the last two games and is, of course, getting plenty of ground-ball outs.
Matt Garza, RHP
Stats
1-4, 4.43 ERA
Garza finally got his first hit in his last start with a leadoff single in the sixth. But he didn't get a win as he gave up five runs on six hits over six innings against the Reds. This will be his second career start vs. the Cardinals.
Jaime Garcia, LHP
Stats
4-0, 1.99 ERA
At his best, Garcia is as good as anybody -- as evidenced by his two shutouts already this year. He needs to maintain his command and efficiency from start to start. If he does that, he'll find himself among the elite.
Casey Coleman, RHP
Stats
1-2, 6.29 ERA
Coleman notched his first quality start in his last outing against the Reds. The difference? Two side sessions with pitching coach Mark Riggins, who tweaked his mechanics a bit, plus the addition of a four-seam fastball.
