Not yet. Didn't leave early enough for work to stop on the way.

I'm going after work.

Not in Illinois, but by ballot hasn't arrived yet. Plan on doing it when it arrives unless I never receive one since I had to register as an independent (which brings up more questions outside of the scope of this thread).

Why not? Look, even if you hate the mess in Washington, and the presidential primary in particular, you still get to have your say for the primary elections for the party of your choice. Also, outside of partisan politics, where I live there is a referendum on electric aggregation purchasing for the village.

Same here, I wish I was a little more informed about the +/- of it. The ballot question was whether or not to allow people or business' to opt out if they want to so I guess it's a done deal already.

There was little to vote on in St. Clair County other than the Presidential GOP Primary. All of our state and federal reps are in place for a little while longer.

So who wants to play the numbers game?

Less than 1 million people in Illinois voted on the Republican primary candidate. There are nearly 13 million people in Illinois. One has to wonder what kind of a chance the GOP has to win Illinois in the general election for President....................................

Zero chance.

In one election up here, a guy won 70%+ of the vote (Derrick Smith I believe is his name) and just last week was caught on tape by the F.B.I. taking a bribe. Didn't seem to matter to people though.

Depending on your community, even if your referendum passed you can possibly opt out of the community negotiated deal if really want to choose a different company.

In theory, as a cooperative the community would be in a better position to negotiate lower rates than you would be able to yourself with one of the current companies. The main downside I think is that those community negotiated rates would be locked in for two or three years so unless you initially opted out you'd have to go along with the community rates even if another company later lowers its rates even further.

So in other words, check to see if your referendum passed and find out what it means for you locally I suppose.

I was surprised and delighted by Buddy Roemer's strong showing in comparison to Rick Perry's, but that's largely just because I didn't like Rick Perry's campaign.

Interesting story, but I don't think it applies to the overwhelming number of people LEFT to vote thus far. If you assume that everyone who did not vote for on the Repub nominee will be voting for Obama, then......guess who wins IL?

It just shows how brain-dead some voters are in this state.

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/politics&id=8589434

March 21, 2012 (CHICAGO) -- An Illinois lawmaker facing a federal bribery charge won the Democratic nomination Tuesday for election to the House this fall.

With 94 percent of precincts counted, Derrick Smith, of Chicago, had 77 percent of the vote compared to 23 percent for challenger Tom Swiss, a former Republican activist.

Smith, who was appointed to his seat last spring, was charged with bribery last week after federal authorities claimed he accepted $7,000 in exchange for supporting what he thought was a day care center's state grant application. That breathed new hope into Swiss' campaign despite significant backing for Smith from House Speaker Michael Madigan's political arm.

Swiss said Tuesday night he was a victim of low turnout. He said highly motivated Democrats who were wary of his GOP past made up the bulk of primary voters.

Here's one I just got last night.

Apparently, the state of Oregon's republican party has "allowed" all independents to vote in the republican primaries for certain state positions.

The Dems wanted Smith to stay in, as his constituents, mostly, vote democrat. If he wins(and he did), the democratic party gets to place whomever they want in his position, after he steps down/gets fired out of a canon.

Mind you, the other guy named Swiss, was a Republican who decided to run in the primary as a Democrat, as to challenge Smith. All of that was before the alleged bribe happened. That is shady there. On top of that, Swiss had a billboard with a black guy on it, and, as you might imagine, Swiss is whiter then the cheese that bares his name.

Smith won imo, because he was a name the voters knew and also because Swiss is a carpetbagger, to put it lightly.
