Some of you know I'm in the process of moving back to the Midwest (Chicago & Ames, IA) & my house has been on the market since Mid-May. We FINALLY got an offer yesterday and what does my dipshit realtor do? Blows it. The people have taken the offer off the table and are now negotiating with the other house they were looking at. WE FINALLY GOT AN OFFER AFTER 40+ SHOWINGS & MY REALTOR BLOWS IT. All you have to do is have the people sign a couple pieces of paper. My mom (the one officially selling the house, but living in Chicago already) tells her (after realtor says "I think we can get some more $$ from them") tells her "Fine, go for it, but if you hear any, ANY hesitation, you retract your counter immediately & accept the deal." Realtor calls my mom back after a couple hrs (my mom is in meetings all day w/ phone off) & leaves this voicemail "Hmm...ya, they pulled the offer. I thought when their realtor went "hmm..." at my counter, it was a negotiating tactic." A NEGOTIATING TACTIC. Since when is "hmm....." a negotiating tactic??

Now, if my realtor can't get this offer back, we're on the hook for 2 apts (1 in Chicago & 1 in Ames) AND the house. All because my realtor wanted to make a couple more $$ and my mom overestimated the realtor's competency to negotiate. FML. I hate realtors.

I told my mom she f**** up as well, but she did tell the realtor originally to accept the offer. Realtor convinced her to go up a tiny bit(it wasn't that much, but too much for the other people I guess). Mom told her right before she walked into her meeting that she wanted that offer done at the offer price if they didn't bite. Realtor should've retracted her counter immediately when she heard the other realtor question it. Immediately. Instead, she waits a couple hrs to call the other realtor back & he tells her they're negotiating with someone else. Could this all be a ploy? Sure, but I doubt it.

And I agree 100% about the field being marginalized. Everything is available on the internet now.

These people have to be out of their house in less than 3 weeks. It was either my house or the other. They weren't asking for anything else outside of the house. I wish I could just call them up personally & close this deal myself (well, at least convince them to put the offer back on the table )
