But we are going to not win many games this year if our head coach continues to not blitz on some select, big 3rd downs, which he's not going to because that's who he is and my guess is that's what he demands of the defensive coordinator, not matter who he is.

As every single person here knows, when you don't get pressure on an opposing QB in this league, he's going to find open men, I don't care who that QB is.

And we refuse to send extra men, as we saw yesterday on some big 3rd downs, to CREATE some pressure. Who the **** cares if we get burned in those situations because we know what's going to happen if we don't--the vast majority of those big 3rd downs, no matter what the yardage, will be converted.

Why does this team always seem to have a coach who doesn't believe in creating pressure by sending people when our front 4 can't create pressure----not all the time, but some of the time, on big plays. I was so fucking tired of seeing it on Lovie's defense and now we have to watch it all over again.

Hoping for turnovers is so dumb because good teams won't turn it over.

I know this team has TONS of other problems but as long as our team refuses to create pressure on the QB, this team is going to be pathetic, even if those other problems are ever addressed.

Yes it's one game but how can we think anything else than this being another year where we are looking at how many losses in order to get the highest pick in the draft? I am so tired of wanting to see our coach fired.

If the dline is able to stop the run, and able to pressure the QB at all, even to the point of making him have to just think, this game looks totally different. The defense the Bears run is predicated on the 4-man rush being able to stop the run and get to the QB. It doesn't do either of those things, so it doesn't work.

If you look at the box score, Jordan Love had a big day. If you watch the game, he had an easy game. He got hit once. They don't even have to wash his jersey.

Still waiting for Eberflus' magical cover 2 defense to show up at some point in his Bears tenure. Vic Fangio took a defense with worse talent than this year's team and made them at least competent the moment he became DC in Chicago.

Good coaching is supposed to be able to mitigate some of your talent deficiencies, and I have yet to see an example of that under Eberflus. It's never a good sign when your head coach can't even get his side of the ball to function at a respectable level.

In fairness to Lovie's defenses not blitzing, they actually DID get home a lot of times with the DL.

For some reason the bears organization has been afflicted with multiple coaches running a very faulty defensive scheme that requires all stars everywhere to be successful.

That was the whole hype that surrounded Eberflus when he was hired. He got the most of out of his talent, they played hard and they didn't need a bunch of high end draft picks to be competent defensively. We've not seen any of that through 18 games. Invested on defense with two second round picks in 2022, two second round picks in 2023 and also had a high 3rd round pick. All the major free agent signings (sans 'Nate Davis') have been on defense. Yet still, they looked every bit as clueless as they did a year ago.

Either Eberflus needs to actually fully take over the defense or they need someone else to be calling the defensive plays because Williams isn't it especially on 3rd down. They looked collectively clueless yesterday.

And they created turnovers.

Until they didn't.

To me, that great defense under Rivera got worse by the day under basically Smith. I think it could have been so much better than it was under another coach, a better coach.

I'm getting the feeling that Williams isn't allowed to blitz on some 3rd downs cause Eberful just doesn't do that.

I agree it's disappointing but paragraph # & # 4 for sure, you have to do it.

Vic Fangio didn't blitz either. Though Vic Fangio would quit and go work at Dairy Queen if you gave him Dominque Robinson, Demarcus Walker and Yannick Ngakoue as his pass rushers.

I would have to say the team wasn't prepared on both sides of the ball.

There were plenty of botched coverages. There's a lot of new players, maybe they need more time?

Maybe they hoped they wouldn't need to blitz, but you're right, if you can't get enough pressure (and they didn't) the QB will find an open receiver. I would assume Floos will order some blitzing.

On the day, the defense had a mixed day. They had some good stops. But ultimately the lack of passrush and botched coverages was the issue.
