Seriously though, why not try and get rid of Soriano?

...or Tony Campana, as suggested by a smart guy on another site.

bad knees

not a good player

owed lots of dough

wont get a good return

Yup, that pretty much sums it up...

Though, I don't think he's a terrible player...but impossible to justify the cost for the production.

So Soriano won't bring much back.l.lbut you could kill two birds with one stone. Get rid of shittiest outfielder. Check. Make room for Jackson. Check.

I get that it is easy to look at the season stat line and say that Soriano isn't producing, but man people haven't been paying attention to the past month where Soriano is hitting .297/.336/.525. Sure that production isn't anywhere near 18 million a season, but the guy has been producing bad knees and all.

Sori's gonna be our problem for another cpl years...even if he's not on the team, we'll be paying for him. Luckily, his ginormous salary is like 1/3 of all that we have committed at this point. We'll have to give Garza and Castro and the like regular raises...but...after this season, Demp and Z are off the books...after next season, Marmol is off the books...and Sori ($18M) and DeJesus ($6.5) are the only ones we have ANY money committed to in 2014 iirc.

We'll have money to spend soon enough...which means Garza, Samardzija, Castro, Rizzo all should be around for a while...and we'll have money to put pieces around them.

ay yup. He's trying like hell to be serviceable. At this point I'd be willing to pay 1/2 his salary for a Low-A 30 yr old prospect...just to only owe him 1/2 of salary...and a team like the Yankees or Boston could probably find $9m for a DH who can still hit and spot-start in LF. Hell, at this point, the Angels might be willing.

DeJesus's 6.5 million in 2014 is a club option.

Methinks they'll do their best to trade DeJesus this year or next. He's having a solid year and the contract is incredibly team-friendly.

Soriano trade would definitely require eating tons of money to even move him, and even more to get something serviceable back.

His knees being what they are at this point has basically blown any chance of getting anything even if we pay 95% of the salary.
